Royal Canadian Mint
The same leaf, in silver since 1988.

You are looking at the side with the maple leaf.
The maple leaf was designed by the engraver Walter Ott for the first Gold Maple Leaf of 1979. According to the Royal Canadian Mint, it has remained unchanged ever since.
At its launch, the Silver Maple Leaf was, according to the Mint, the world’s first bullion coin made of 99.99 per cent silver.
9999
This is how it appears beside the leaf: 99.99 per cent fine silver.

What lies in the details

Below the large leaf sits a small maple leaf, micro-engraved by laser. At its centre is the number 26 for the year of issue, visible only under magnification.
Every die bears this mark. The Mint captures it under a microscope and stores it in encrypted form. A verification device later reads it like a fingerprint and matches the coin to its die.
The fine lines in the field are machined on the master tooling to micrometre precision, so that they turn out the same on every coin. The width and spacing of the lines create a pattern that refracts the light and is characteristic of this coin.
A leaf through the decades
1908
A home in Ottawa
The Mint in Ottawa is ready in November 1907. Its head, James Bonar, nevertheless waits until the security fence is in place. Striking therefore only begins on 2 January 1908.
1965
The leaf on the flag
On 15 February, Canada’s new national flag with the maple leaf is raised on Parliament Hill for the first time. Maple leaves have appeared on Canadian cent coins ever since the 1850s.
2018
MINTSHIELD
Since the 2018 issue, every Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had an invisible surface protection. According to the Mint, it reduces the occurrence of white spots and alters neither purity nor composition.
2024
A new portrait
Since the 2024 issue, the Maple Leaf bullion coins have borne the effigy of King Charles III.
The motif
Leaf and portrait

- The sugar maple
- Its sap is particularly rich in sugar, which is why maple syrup producers value it.
- Two languages
- CANADA appears above the leaf. Along the rim, the weight and purity are given in English and French: FINE SILVER and ARGENT PUR.
- King Charles III
- The portrait was created by Steven Rosati of Montreal. The Mint had invited more than 350 artists for the task.
- Facing left
- Elizabeth II faced right, the King faces left: by long-standing tradition, the direction of the gaze changes with each monarch.
A country has placed the maple leaf on its flag.
You hold it in silver.
Since 1996, the maple has also been Canada’s national arboreal emblem. Ten species of maple are native to the country, and one of their leaves accompanies you with this coin.

Perfect Denomination for Maximum Flexibility
The small denomination of one ounce each makes these silver coins the ideal means of exchange. While larger bars are often impractical in times of crisis, these 200 individual coins offer you maximum flexibility. They can be easily carried in a wallet – discreetly and inconspicuously when travelling to distant countries. An invaluable advantage when conventional means of payment fail.
"The Maple Leaf is not just a coin – it is a promise of security when everything else falters."
Why the Maple Leaf Should Be Your First Choice
The Canadian Maple Leaf is one of the most popular bullion coins in the world. And for good reason! With its exceptional purity of 99.99% pure silver, it sets the standard. The characteristic maple leaf design is not only beautiful to behold – it stands for the stability and reliability of Canada. The detailed leaf veining, framed by the inscriptions "CANADA", "9999" and "1 OZ ARGENT PUR", makes each individual coin a small work of art.
Practical Storage in High-Quality Coin Tubes
The 200 coins are delivered in eight transparent coin tubes with distinctive yellow screw caps. These are embossed with a dollar sign – a symbol of true value. The transparent tubes allow you to admire your silver treasure at any time, while the stackable locking caps provide optimal protection. This keeps your wealth safely stored and immediately at hand whenever needed.
Inflation Hedge and Value Preservation in Its Purest Form
Silver has proven itself over millennia as a reliable inflation hedge. While paper money loses purchasing power, physical silver retains its intrinsic value. The growing industrial demand – particularly in electronics, solar, and medical technology – combined with a limited supply, speaks in favour of long-term value preservation. With 6,220 grams of pure silver, you hold a considerable fortune in your hands that no central bank can devalue.
- Tax-free gains after 12 months holding period
- High liquidity – globally recognised and tradeable
- Physical ownership without counterparty risk
- Perfect complement to gold for a balanced precious metals portfolio
Royal Canadian Mint – Tradition Meets Innovation

With a diameter of 38 mm and the highest face value among all silver bullion coins at 5 Canadian dollars, the Maple Leaf combines prestige with practical utility. The current reverse features the portrait of King Charles III – a sign of continuity and stability in uncertain times.
