Royal Canadian Mint

The same leaf, in silver since 1988.

Side with the maple leaf, CANADA above it and the weight and fineness in English and French along the rimSide with the portrait of King Charles III and the face value and year below it

You are looking at the side with the maple leaf.

The maple leaf was designed by the engraver Walter Ott for the first Gold Maple Leaf of 1979. According to the Royal Canadian Mint, it has remained unchanged ever since.

At its launch, the Silver Maple Leaf was, according to the Mint, the world’s first bullion coin made of 99.99 per cent silver.

9999

This is how it appears beside the leaf: 99.99 per cent fine silver.

What lies in the details

The small laser leaf, enlarged from the product photo. The number at its centre only shows under stronger magnification.

Below the large leaf sits a small maple leaf, micro-engraved by laser. At its centre is the number 26 for the year of issue, visible only under magnification.

Every die bears this mark. The Mint captures it under a microscope and stores it in encrypted form. A verification device later reads it like a fingerprint and matches the coin to its die.

The fine lines in the field are machined on the master tooling to micrometre precision, so that they turn out the same on every coin. The width and spacing of the lines create a pattern that refracts the light and is characteristic of this coin.

A leaf through the decades

  1. 1908

    A home in Ottawa

The Mint in Ottawa is ready in November 1907. Its head, James Bonar, nevertheless waits until the security fence is in place. Striking therefore only begins on 2 January 1908.

  2. 1965

    The leaf on the flag

On 15 February, Canada’s new national flag with the maple leaf is raised on Parliament Hill for the first time. Maple leaves have appeared on Canadian cent coins ever since the 1850s.

  3. 2018

    MINTSHIELD

Since the 2018 issue, every Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had an invisible surface protection. According to the Mint, it reduces the occurrence of white spots and alters neither purity nor composition.

  4. 2024

    A new portrait

Since the 2024 issue, the Maple Leaf bullion coins have borne the effigy of King Charles III.

The motif

Leaf and portrait

The sugar maple
Its sap is particularly rich in sugar, which is why maple syrup producers value it.
Two languages
CANADA appears above the leaf. Along the rim, the weight and purity are given in English and French: FINE SILVER and ARGENT PUR.
King Charles III
The portrait was created by Steven Rosati of Montreal. The Mint had invited more than 350 artists for the task.
Facing left
Elizabeth II faced right, the King faces left: by long-standing tradition, the direction of the gaze changes with each monarch.

A country has placed the maple leaf on its flag.

You hold it in silver.

Since 1996, the maple has also been Canada’s national arboreal emblem. Ten species of maple are native to the country, and one of their leaves accompanies you with this coin.

1,555 g fine silver · 999.9/1,000 · Brilliant uncirculated · Münztube

Issuing country: Canada. Since 1969, the Royal Canadian Mint has been a Crown Corporation wholly owned by the Government of Canada.

The characteristic maple leaf with its five points is shown in breathtaking detail – every vein of the leaf is sharply defined. The fine radial lines in the background give the coin a fascinating sheen that reflects light in a unique way.

With a diameter of 38 mm and a weight of exactly one ounce (31.1035 g), the coin sits perfectly in the hand. Its face value of 5 Canadian dollars makes it the bullion coin with the highest face value worldwide – an additional quality feature that builds trust.

Why Invest in Silver Right Now?

Industrial demand for silver is virtually exploding! Whether in electronics, the booming solar industry, or medical technology – the white metal is urgently needed everywhere. At the same time, reserves are limited. This combination of rising demand and scarce supply creates enormous potential for long-term value appreciation.

  1. Inflation hedge par excellence: While paper money loses purchasing power, silver retains its intrinsic value
  2. High liquidity: Maple Leafs are recognized worldwide and can be traded at any time
  3. Physical ownership: You hold real wealth in your hands, independent of banks and digital systems
  4. Generational wealth: Silver outlasts currency reforms and economic crises

Unique Security Features for Your Peace of Mind

The Royal Canadian Mint made no compromises with the Maple Leaf. The small maple leaf privy mark serves as an additional security feature, making counterfeiting practically impossible. The transparent coin tubes with their distinctive yellow caps optimally protect your investment from environmental influences. The embossed "TE" on the caps guarantees the integrity of your coins.

Worth highlighting: The Maple Leafs are the only silver coins with tarnish protection! While other silver coins may darken over time, your Maple Leafs retain their radiant shine for years to come.
