Royal Canadian Mint
The same leaf, in silver since 1988.

You are looking at the side with the maple leaf.
The maple leaf was designed by the engraver Walter Ott for the first Gold Maple Leaf of 1979. According to the Royal Canadian Mint, it has remained unchanged ever since.
At its launch, the Silver Maple Leaf was, according to the Mint, the world’s first bullion coin made of 99.99 per cent silver.
9999
This is how it appears beside the leaf: 99.99 per cent fine silver.

What lies in the details

Below the large leaf sits a small maple leaf, micro-engraved by laser. At its centre is the number 26 for the year of issue, visible only under magnification.
Every die bears this mark. The Mint captures it under a microscope and stores it in encrypted form. A verification device later reads it like a fingerprint and matches the coin to its die.
The fine lines in the field are machined on the master tooling to micrometre precision, so that they turn out the same on every coin. The width and spacing of the lines create a pattern that refracts the light and is characteristic of this coin.
A leaf through the decades
1908
A home in Ottawa
The Mint in Ottawa is ready in November 1907. Its head, James Bonar, nevertheless waits until the security fence is in place. Striking therefore only begins on 2 January 1908.
1965
The leaf on the flag
On 15 February, Canada’s new national flag with the maple leaf is raised on Parliament Hill for the first time. Maple leaves have appeared on Canadian cent coins ever since the 1850s.
2018
MINTSHIELD
Since the 2018 issue, every Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had an invisible surface protection. According to the Mint, it reduces the occurrence of white spots and alters neither purity nor composition.
2024
A new portrait
Since the 2024 issue, the Maple Leaf bullion coins have borne the effigy of King Charles III.
The motif
Leaf and portrait

- The sugar maple
- Its sap is particularly rich in sugar, which is why maple syrup producers value it.
- Two languages
- CANADA appears above the leaf. Along the rim, the weight and purity are given in English and French: FINE SILVER and ARGENT PUR.
- King Charles III
- The portrait was created by Steven Rosati of Montreal. The Mint had invited more than 350 artists for the task.
- Facing left
- Elizabeth II faced right, the King faces left: by long-standing tradition, the direction of the gaze changes with each monarch.
A country has placed the maple leaf on its flag.
You hold it in silver.
Since 1996, the maple has also been Canada’s national arboreal emblem. Ten species of maple are native to the country, and one of their leaves accompanies you with this coin.

Technical Perfection Down to the Last Detail
The Royal Canadian Mint has set standards with the Maple Leaf series. With a fineness of 999.9/1000, these coins are among the purest silver coins in the world. The face value of 5 Canadian dollars also makes them official legal tender – an additional security aspect for your investment.
The current portrait of King Charles III on the reverse underscores the official character of this bullion coin. The bilingual inscription "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR" documents the exceptional quality in both English and French.
Your crisis protection for Uncertain Times
In times of economic uncertainty, smart investors look for stable assets. Silver has proven itself as a crisis-resistant currency for millennia. "Silver is not just an investment, it is insurance for your wealth. An insurance that can even increase in value."
