1/200 oz Baby Lion 2026 – pure fine gold in Proof quality, only 1,000 pieces worldwide

  • Strictly limited: The mintage is fixed at only 1,000 pieces worldwide. There will be no more of this year of issue.
  • Growth potential: The limited mintage and the strong demand for micro gold give the coin additional value appreciation potential. The foundation remains the gold price.
  • Rarity with substance: a true rarity in miniature format and yet far more than a mere collector's coin, because at its core it is minted investment gold.
  • Genuine gold investment: physical gold, whose value is based on the gold price, tradable worldwide and can be resold at any time.
  • Minting quality: the highest possible finish in "Proof" with a mirrored background and finely matted relief.
  • Design: A young lion dashes through the water with an open mouth and outstretched paw, framed by African diamond ornaments.
  • Material / fineness: 1/200 oz fine gold (0.16 g) with a fineness of 999.9/1,000. Pure gold without any alloy content, 14.00 mm diameter.
  • Manufacturer: exclusively issued by Kettner Edelmetalle. The issuing country is the Republic of Liberia.
  • Country of origin: Germany.

Small in format, large in substance. With the Baby Lion 2026, you acquire fully-fledged investment gold. The value of this coin is primarily based on the fine gold it contains and moves with the gold price. The design gives it a personal touch, but the actual reason for buying is the metal. Because the denomination is so manageable, entering physical gold investment here is possible without major hurdles. Many investors start exactly this way: with a small amount that grows over the years.

A lion cub full of energy

The obverse shows a young lion in the midst of motion. The paw is stretched forward, the mouth open and the tail raised in the air, while fine droplets of water splash around its paws. Whiskers and the fluffy juvenile coat are clearly visible even on a diameter of just 14.00 mm. On the left and right, geometric diamond and zigzag bands in the style of African ornamentation frame the scene. At the top is the inscription "BIG FIVE BABY LÖWE", at the bottom "1/200 OZ 9999 FEINGOLD".

On the reverse, the African continent appears in relief with contour lines, almost like a topographic map. On it, young animals frolic: elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, and giraffe. In the south of the map sits the national coat of arms of Liberia. The inscription states the face value "25 DOLLARS" and the year of issue 2026, below which it reads "Republic of Liberia". The coin is delivered in a coincard with the inscription "Baby Löwe" on the front. The back carries the motto "Africa's Most Precious Offspring".

Mintage of only 1,000 pieces, deliberately kept scarce

One thousand pieces. That is the entire mintage. Many well-known gold coins are issued in five- or even six-figure quantities. With its mintage of only 1,000 pieces, this coin operates on a completely different scale. The limitation is final and cannot be increased afterwards. When selling, this very low mintage can be an additional advantage. A specific performance is not guaranteed, however, as the basis always remains the fine gold.

Proof: the pinnacle of minting

For Proof quality, dies and blanks are elaborately polished, then struck multiple times under high pressure. This creates the typical contrast of mirror-polished surfaces and matted relief, through which the lion cub stands out in three dimensions. The edge is reeded. It is best not to touch the sensitive surface at all and to hold the coin only by the edge. The coincard protects it reliably.

Why fine gold is the substance

Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has been a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. Already in ancient Egypt it served as a unit of measurement for trade, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it formed the basis of the gold standard. Its value has never been zero, because it has intrinsic value. It is scarce, durable, and recognized worldwide as a medium of exchange. It is no coincidence that central banks are among the largest holders of gold in the world. Topics such as inflation hedge and crisis protection are traditionally associated with physical precious metal. With this coin, however, it is primarily about preserving value and building wealth in small steps. And there's another advantage: profits from a later sale are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

  • Wealth building in small steps: Even small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable fortune.
  • High liquidity: Fine gold can be traded worldwide and converted into cash whenever needed.
  • Generational value: Gold retains its physical properties and can easily be passed on to children and grandchildren.

Comparison: micro format or a full ounce?

A 1-ounce gold coin has a lower premium per gram, but requires a significantly higher amount. The 1/200 oz, on the other hand, is an easily accessible building block. You buy genuine fine gold for a manageable amount and can expand your holdings as flexibly as possible for you. Both paths lead to the same goal: physical gold in your own possession. In addition to the lion, the Big Five Baby series also includes, among others, the Baby Elephant and the Baby Leopard. This gives you a selection of identically designed coins in the same weight class.

Despite the personal occasion, what you are acquiring here is fully-fledged investment gold, meaning minted fine gold whose value is based on the gold price. Give the gift of genuine investment gold for a birth, christening, or birthday, and lay the foundation for a fortune.
