Wildlife Collection 2026: Elephant, Leopard and Hammerhead Shark in a Strictly Limited Three-Coin Set

  • Strictly limited: Only 1,000 specimens of this set will be issued worldwide – a very low mintage for three internationally sought-after animal designs.
  • Growth opportunities: High value appreciation potential thanks to strict limitation and continued demand for wildlife coinage.
  • Rarity: Every collector's coin in this set belongs to an exclusive collection of which only 1,000 exist.
  • Investment objective: A collector's item with increased value appreciation potential – significantly more than pure bullion products.
  • Minting quality: The highest possible quality grade, Proof (PP), with a mirrored background and frosted reliefs.
  • Design: Elephants at the waterhole, a leopard on a branch, a hammerhead shark over a coral reef – three habitats, three series icons.
  • Material / fineness: Each coin consists of 0.5 g of pure gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000 – 1.5 g of fine gold in total.
  • Manufacturer: Minted by the renowned Bavarian Main Mint (Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt).
  • Country of origin: Germany; the issuing countries are Somalia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Three animals, three coins, one case. The Wildlife Collection 2026 brings together three gold coins of 0.5 grams each, which individually have long had a loyal fan base: the Somalia Elephant and the Somalia Leopard from the Gold African Wildlife series, as well as the Hammerhead Shark from the Congo World's Wildlife series. With a mintage of just 1,000 pieces worldwide, this set is a true rarity – and one you won't see every year.

Three Designs, Three Habitats

The elephant opens the set. The 2026 year of issue shows two African elephants in the vast savannah, the sun above them, while in the foreground a zebra lowers its head to a waterhole. Since 2004, the Somalia Elephant gold coin has been issued annually with a new design – a yearly-design principle that has delighted collectors for over two decades.

Quite different is the leopard. Crouched, almost silent, the big cat creeps along a sturdy branch, its spotted coat rendered down to the smallest rosette, with umbrella thorn acacias on the horizon. Since 2018, it has complemented the African Wildlife family as a second leitmotif. The series, incidentally, is also issued as a silver coin – but gold is, after all, the big brother of its smaller silver counterpart.

And then the deliberately set contrast: the third coin leaves the savannah and dives into the deep. A hammerhead shark glides over a coral reef, with the inscription "The Shark" above and the series logo "World's Wildlife" with a globe below. This marks the eighth issue of this popular series.

Leopards as a Common Thread: The Reverse Sides

The elephant and leopard coins bear the national coat of arms of the Somali Republic on the reverse – two upright leopards holding the shield with the five-pointed star – along with the year 2026 and the face value of 20 shillings. The hammerhead shark coin shows the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the leopard's head at its center, the year of issue 2026, and a face value of 10 francs. Thus, the spotted big cat appears on all three coins – a lovely detail for connoisseurs.

Proof Quality on Eleven Millimeters

Eleven millimeters in diameter. That may not sound like much. Yet, especially in this small format, the Proof minting quality reveals its full potential: the mirror-polished background makes the frosted animals stand out in relief, with tusks, fur texture, and gill slits remaining razor-sharp. While the 0.5 g elephant is also available in a capsuled Brilliant Uncirculated version, all three coins in this set are issued in Proof quality. The collection was produced by the Bavarian Main Mint in Munich, one of Germany's most traditional minting facilities. It is delivered as new merchandise in a case with a certificate of authenticity.

Why Collectors Are Drawn to This Set

  • Significantly scarcer than the individual coins: The 0.5 g individual issues of the Leopard and Shark are each limited to 5,000 pieces, whereas the set itself is limited to just 1,000 specimens.
  • Cross-series combination: Two classics from Somalia meet a marine creature from the Congo – a combination found only in this set.
  • Ready-made presentation: The case and certificate make the collection an ideal gift for animal lovers and numismatists alike.
  • Affordable entry point: The small denomination opens the door to exclusive Proof mintings without requiring a full ounce commitment.

Of course, it still holds true: those seeking the most fine gold per euro are better served by classic bullion coins such as the Krugerrand or by bars. Here, you are deliberately paying for rarity, minting quality, and presentation – and that is precisely the appeal. The strict limitation to only 1,000 pieces ensures that this set will be missing from many collections.

Gold – The Substance Behind the Collector's Value

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has served as a reliable store of value for more than 6,000 years. It holds intrinsic value, has never become worthless, and is recognized everywhere in the world – not for nothing is it called the money of the gods. Even central banks today count among the largest holders of gold. Many also value this precious metal as a classic inflation hedge and proven form of crisis protection; however, with this collection, the joy of collecting is clearly at the forefront. A pleasant side effect: in Germany, profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

Three icons of the animal kingdom, pure fine gold in Proof quality, and a worldwide mintage of 1,000 sets – the Wildlife Collection 2026 is made for collectors seeking something special.

With such a limited mintage, acting quickly is worthwhile. Secure your specimen of this extraordinary collection while it is still available.
