Some coins you buy. Others you find – if you're lucky. The 1/4 oz Gold Golden Eagle 2026 Germany Edition undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. With a mintage of only 25 pieces, it is by far the most exclusive variant of the Golden Eagle design from Kettner Edelmetalle and ranks among the most extraordinary gold coins in our entire range. Whoever owns one of these pieces holds a genuine rarity in their hands.
King of the Alps – the design in detail
The golden eagle is, after the white-tailed eagle, the largest bird of prey breeding in Germany. In this country, it is found exclusively in the Bavarian Alps, where only a few dozen territories are occupied. Its wingspan reaches up to 2.30 meters. It is no wonder, then, that this proud hunter has always been regarded as a symbol of strength and freedom.
The obverse shows it sitting upright on a gnarled branch. Its gaze turns to the side, watchful, almost defiant. Every feather lies in fine rows of scales, with the firs of a mountain forest layered behind it. Above it is the inscription "1/4 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD" – and to the right of it, the small but decisive detail: the silhouette of Germany as a privy mark. It turns a beautiful ounce gold coin into a collector's item of truly special rarity.
On the reverse, the eagle spreads its wings wide and prepares to take flight. The scene is framed by the face value "100 DOLLARS", the inscription "Republic of Liberia", the small national coat of arms, and the year 2026.
Brilliance in Proof
In Proof minting quality, dies and blanks are prepared with particular care and struck multiple times. The result: a mirror-smooth background on which the matte relief of the eagle appears almost three-dimensional. Turning the coin in the light, shine and shadow travel across the feathers and firs. The piece is delivered in an elegant black case with a velvety inlay – ready for display or as a special gift.
Why only 25 pieces make the difference
The Golden Eagle design in 1/4 oz gold was regularly issued in 2026 with a mintage of 299 pieces. That alone is already low. The Germany Edition with privy mark, however, is roughly twelve times scarcer still. With such a very low mintage, numerous design, eagle, and privy mark collectors worldwide compete for just a handful of coins – a constellation that makes rarity palpable.
25 pieces. One design. One year of issue. Once they are gone, the Germany Edition of the Golden Eagle is history.
No serious forecast of future prices exists for any coin. What is clear, however, is that strictly limited editions with an attractive design have traditionally been among the most sought-after pieces on the collector's market – and this is exactly where the appreciation potential of this collector's coin lies.
In comparison: Golden Eagle, Gold Euro, and bullion classics
Many lovers of native bird designs are familiar with the Gold 20 Euro "Native Birds" series of the Federal Republic of Germany. Between 2016 and 2021, it featured the nightingale, golden oriole, eagle owl, peregrine falcon, white stork, and black woodpecker – a golden eagle was not among them.
- 20 Euro Gold "Native Birds": 1/8 oz (3.89 g), 17.5 mm, high mintages, distributed across the German mints – ideal for a broad entry point
- Maple Leaf, American Eagle & Co.: bullion coins in large quantities, without limitation and generally not struck in Proof
- Golden Eagle Germany Edition: double the gold weight compared to the Gold Euro, 30 mm diameter, mirror shine, and a limitation to only 25 pieces
The strength of the Gold Euro series lies in its familiarity. The strength of the Golden Eagle lies in its exclusivity – the premium of such a rarity reflects precisely this scarcity.
Gold – a promise for 6,000 years
Even in ancient Egypt, gold served as a measure for trade. Kings wore it as a sign of their power, it changed hands along the Silk Road, and under the gold standard of the 19th and 20th centuries it backed the paper currencies of entire nations. Gold is the oldest currency in the world and the elder sibling of silver – not without reason do many call it "God's money". Its value has never been zero, thanks to its intrinsic worth.
Even today, central banks around the world hold large gold reserves. In addition to its collector's value, with this coin you also enjoy the proven character of the precious metal, which many people rely on as an inflation hedge and as crisis protection. Gold is tradable worldwide, highly liquid, and retains its physical properties across generations – a heirloom that does not fade. Furthermore, in Germany, profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of more than one year.
