The Royal Mint

32 Britannias in silver.

Coin tubes and stacks of silver coins, a single Britannia in front of them

Philip Nathan’s Britannia

The sculptor created her in 1987 for a new bullion coin from The Royal Mint.

She wears a Corinthian helmet with a high crest, while her hair and robes flow to the left.

  1. The trident

She holds it with her arm outstretched. It stands for her connection with the sea.

  2. The shield

It bears the Union Flag and stands for protection.

  3. The olive branch

She holds it above the shield. It stands for peace.

Meaning as given by The Royal Mint, details from a product photo.

32 coins

A tube from The Royal Mint holds 16 of these coins, and each row stands for one tube.

From Hadrian to Charles III

  1. around119

    On Roman coins

Under Emperor Hadrian, Britannia appears on a coin for the first time: a woman on rocks, with a spear and a shield, and below her the word BRITANNIA.

  2. 1672

    Back on English coins

She returns on England’s first official copper coins, the halfpenny and the farthing, under Charles II. Tradition has it that Frances Stuart, a lady of the court, sat as her model.

  3. 1997

    The Britannia in silver

Ten years after the gold Britannia comes the silver one, with 958 parts per thousand of silver until 2012. As early as 1697, England had prescribed exactly this fineness for silverware, which was hallmarked with a seated Britannia.

  4. 2013

    In fine silver

Since then, the silver Britannia has been struck in fine silver.

  5. 2023

    The King’s portrait

According to The Royal Mint, the 2023 Britannia is the world’s first bullion coin to bear the official portrait of King Charles III. The sculptor Martin Jennings called it his smallest work.

The Royal Mint in Wales

Since 1975, The Royal Mint has struck coins only in Llantrisant in South Wales. Queen Elizabeth II had opened the first phase of the site on 17 December 1968.

By its own account, it looks back on a history of more than 1,100 years.

Every year, an independent jury tests the weight and fineness of its coins at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London, during the Trial of the Pyx.

“Steadfast in the eye of the storm.”

This is how The Royal Mint describes its Britannia.

In fine silver.

  • fineness 999
  • 16.5 mm
  • face value 20 pence

In the background, fine wave lines extend – a reference to Britannia's maritime tradition.

The reverse features the official portrait of King Charles III. A historic distinction! These coins are among the first years of issue to bear the new royal likeness. The inscription "CHARLES III · D · G · REX · F · D · 20 PENCE" underscores their official status as legal tender.

Why 32 Coins? The Smart Strategy

This bundle offers you several advantages at once. The smaller denomination of 1/10 ounce enables maximum flexibility. You can sell individual coins without having to break up larger units. Particularly in times of crisis, this divisibility proves to be an invaluable advantage.

Silver has proven itself as a store of value over millennia. Unlike paper money, it possesses intrinsic value. Industrial demand – from electronics and solar technology to medicine – is continuously rising. Limited supply meets growing demand.

Don't Overlook the Tax Advantages

An important aspect for investors: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This regulation makes physical silver particularly attractive for long-term wealth preservation and retirement planning.

The high liquidity of silver also enables a rapid conversion into cash, should this ever be required. The precious metal is traded worldwide as a commodity and valued by central banks as a reserve asset.

Your Entry into the World of Precious Metals

With this bundle of 32 Silver Britannia coins, you are not only acquiring a high-quality investment product. You are securing a piece of British history, minted by one of the most tradition-rich mints of all time. The Royal Mint has stood for quality and trust for centuries.

Whether as the foundation of your precious metals collection, to diversify your portfolio, or as a lasting gift of enduring value – these coins meet the highest standards. Act now and secure your share of timeless value stability!
