Münze Österreich

Five ounces of gold, coin upon coin.

Since October 1989, Münze Österreich has issued the Wiener Philharmoniker in gold.

Coin tube with gold Wiener Philharmoniker coins, a stack of coins and a single coin beside it

The organ in the Golden Hall

The organ, enlarged from a product photo.

One side of the coin shows the organ in the Great Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, often called the Golden Hall (Goldener Saal).

Its case forms a single whole with the hall, and the silent pipes of its façade still come from the first organ. Behind it today stands the hall’s fourth organ, the work of the Vorarlberg firm Rieger, in place since 2011. The first was presented in 1872, and Anton Bruckner improvised on it.

The inscription REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH and the face value make the Philharmoniker legal tender in Austria.

In the Golden Hall, the Wiener Philharmoniker play their New Year’s Concert.

Today it is broadcast to more than 150 countries. According to the orchestra, around 50 million people watch.

20 coins

Each with a quarter of an ounce of gold, plus the coin tube.

Each bears its own face value and the milled edge that Münze Österreich cites as a mark of authenticity.

The instruments

The other side shows instruments of the orchestra the coin is named after. Above them are the words WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.

The design is the work of Thomas Pesendorfer, later chief engraver at Münze Österreich. It has remained the same since it was first struck, in gold, silver and platinum.

  1. The Vienna horn

Top left, with its coils and its wide, sweeping bell.

  2. The bassoon

Slender and standing tall, between the horn and the neck of the cello.

  3. The harp

Top right. Its strings reach down to the string instruments.

  4. The string instruments

In the centre, the cello, with two more string instruments on either side.

All details enlarged from a product photo.

From the Vienna Mint to the Philharmoniker

  1. 1194

    A ransom

According to tradition, the history of the Vienna Mint begins in this year, with the ransom for King Richard the Lionheart of England.

  2. 1835

    At the Heumarkt

The Hauptmünzamt am Heumarkt is built to plans by Paul Sprenger and completed in 1838. The Philharmoniker is still struck here today.

  3. 1989

    The first Philharmoniker

The Hauptmünzamt becomes Münze Österreich AG, a subsidiary of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank. On 10 October, a Wiener Philharmoniker in gold is sold for the first time, initially as one ounce and as a quarter ounce.

On one side the organ, on the other the instruments.

In between, fine gold.

Münze Österreich has dedicated the Wiener Philharmoniker to music.

20 × 1/4 oz fine gold · fineness 999.9 · 22 mm · face value 25 euros

A Classic That Makes Every Investor's Heart Beat Faster

The Vienna Philharmonic is not just a gold coin – it is a tribute to the city of music, Vienna, and at the same time the best-selling gold coin series in Europe. Since 1989, it has captivated investors around the globe. The reason? A rare combination: first-class gold at 999.9 fineness, worldwide recognition, low premiums, and a design that is artistically unrivaled.

Why the 1/4 Ounce Denomination Is So Clever

While the large 1-ounce variant may appear impressive, the 1/4 ounce scores with a decisive advantage: flexibility. Anyone who wishes to later sell or give away part of their gold holdings is far more agile with smaller units. This is exactly where this bundle comes in – 20 handy gold coins give you the freedom to act in multiple steps instead of having to liquidate one large unit all at once.

  • Ideally divisible – also suitable for gifts and inheritances
  • Liquid worldwide and immediately tradable
  • Small units = perfect crisis protection for uncertain times
  • Low premium thanks to the bundle advantage

The Design – When Gold Becomes Music

Take a look at the coin: on the obverse you see the unmistakable organ of the Golden Hall in the Vienna Musikverein – the very place where the legendary New Year's Concert enchants the world every year. The reverse shows an orchestral still life of violins, harp, Vienna horn, bassoon, and the cello enthroned majestically at the center. The ensemble is framed by the inscription "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER." The reverse also bears the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH," the year of issue 2026, the weight designation "1/4 UNZE GOLD 999.9," as well as the face value of 25 euros.

"Gold is the oldest currency in human history – and the Vienna Philharmonic is its most melodious ambassador."

The Coin Tube – More Than Just Packaging

The included original coin tube from the Austrian Mint is not merely a container. It protects your gold treasures from mechanical impact, keeps the coins dust-free, and ensures that the Brilliant Uncirculated surface retains its shine for decades to come. The characteristic red lid featuring the Austrian Mint logo is also a genuine identifying feature for collectors worldwide – making the tube a stylish companion to your investment.

A Win – Fiscally, Financially, and Emotionally

Investment gold is VAT-exempt in Germany – an advantage that only a few tangible assets can claim. In addition, anyone who holds their coins for longer than one year may benefit from a tax-free sale upon later disposal (according to current legal status). This makes this investor's package excellently suited for long-term retirement provision and as a cross-generational wealth building block.

While central banks around the world are increasing their gold reserves – thereby placing less and less trust even in their own fiat currencies – savvy investors have long been relying on this proven classic. Throughout its more than 6,000-year history, gold has never had a value of zero. It is the money that has outlasted crises, wars, and currency reforms. With this bundle, you secure 20 of these shining stores of value at once – and with them, a piece of financial independence you can feel the moment you hold it in your hands. High-quality inflation hedge and reassuring substance: inflation hedging has rarely sounded so good.
