Münze Österreich

Ten ounces of gold, coin upon coin.

Since October 1989, Münze Österreich has issued the Wiener Philharmoniker in gold.

Coin tube with gold Wiener Philharmoniker coins, a stack of coins and a single coin beside it

The organ in the Golden Hall

The organ, enlarged from a product photo.

One side of the coin shows the organ in the Great Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, often called the Golden Hall (Goldener Saal).

Its case forms a single whole with the hall, and the silent pipes of its façade still come from the first organ. Behind it today stands the hall’s fourth organ, the work of the Vorarlberg firm Rieger, in place since 2011. The first was presented in 1872, and Anton Bruckner improvised on it.

The inscription REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH and the face value make the Philharmoniker legal tender in Austria.

In the Golden Hall, the Wiener Philharmoniker play their New Year’s Concert.

Today it is broadcast to more than 150 countries. According to the orchestra, around 50 million people watch.

10 coins

Each with one ounce of gold, plus the coin tube.

Each bears its own face value and the milled edge that Münze Österreich cites as a mark of authenticity.

The instruments

The other side shows instruments of the orchestra the coin is named after. Above them are the words WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.

The design is the work of Thomas Pesendorfer, later chief engraver at Münze Österreich. It has remained the same since it was first struck, in gold, silver and platinum.

  1. The Vienna horn

Top left, with its coils and its wide, sweeping bell.

  2. The bassoon

Slender and standing tall, between the horn and the neck of the cello.

  3. The harp

Top right. Its strings reach down to the string instruments.

  4. The string instruments

In the centre, the cello, with two more string instruments on either side.

All details enlarged from a product photo.

From the Vienna Mint to the Philharmoniker

  1. 1194

    A ransom

According to tradition, the history of the Vienna Mint begins in this year, with the ransom for King Richard the Lionheart of England.

  2. 1835

    At the Heumarkt

The Hauptmünzamt am Heumarkt is built to plans by Paul Sprenger and completed in 1838. The Philharmoniker is still struck here today.

  3. 1989

    The first Philharmoniker

The Hauptmünzamt becomes Münze Österreich AG, a subsidiary of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank. On 10 October, a Wiener Philharmoniker in gold is sold for the first time, initially as one ounce and as a quarter ounce.

On one side the organ, on the other the instruments.

In between, fine gold.

Münze Österreich has dedicated the Wiener Philharmoniker to music.

Ten ounces of pure gold. In a single tube. This is no ordinary purchase – it's a decision. A decision for substance, for permanence, for a piece of eternity. With the investor package 10 x 1 oz Gold Vienna Philharmonic 2026, you acquire one of the most sought-after investment products in the world – and in a quantity that enables genuine wealth building.

Why the Vienna Philharmonic in particular?

Since its first issue in 1989, the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin has become one of the best-selling gold coins worldwide. This is no coincidence. The combination of Austrian minting craftsmanship, the distinctive musical design, and the maximum fineness of 999.9/1,000 makes it the first choice for investors who refuse to compromise.

What sets the Philharmonic apart from competitors like the Krugerrand or the Maple Leaf? It is the only major bullion coin with a face value in euros – specifically 100 euros per piece. This makes it official legal tender in Austria. Of course, the material value far exceeds the face value many times over, but this legal foundation gives the coin an additional dimension of trust and legitimacy.

A design that breathes musical history

Take one of the ten coins out of the tube and examine it closely. On the design side, a masterful ensemble unfolds: violins, harp, horn, bassoon – and at the center, as the undisputed protagonist, the cello. Above it stands the inscription "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" in characteristic typography. It is a tribute to one of the most famous orchestras in the world, captured in 31.1 grams of purest gold.

The reverse shows the iconic great organ of the Vienna Musikverein – the concert hall world-famous for its unique acoustics. The design is flanked by the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH", the weight indication "1 UNZE GOLD 999.9", the year of issue 2026, and the face value of 100 euros. Every detail is razor-sharp. Brilliant Uncirculated. Flawless.

311 grams of fine gold – securely stored in the original tube

This investor package contains exactly:

  1. 10 pieces 1 oz Gold Vienna Philharmonic 2026 (each 31.1 g fine gold)
  2. 1 original coin tube from the Austrian Mint with the characteristic red cap and embossed manufacturer's emblem

The transparent tube not only protects your coins from mechanical damage and fingerprints – it is also a practical storage system supplied directly by the manufacturer. Stackable, space-saving, and instantly recognizable as original. Anyone wishing to store their gold holdings professionally will appreciate this well-thought-out packaging.

Gold: The ultimate store of value for over 6,000 years

While paper currencies come and go – the guilder, the mark, the drachma – gold remains. Always. It has survived every war, every hyperinflation, every change of system. Throughout the entirety of human history, gold has never had a value of zero. No fiat currency can claim that.

"Gold is money. Everything else is credit." – This famous quote captures why the world's largest central banks are steadily increasing their gold reserves. If even the guardians of paper money are betting on gold, that should give one pause.

With this 10-piece package, you secure 311 grams of fine gold – VAT-free in accordance with § 25c UStG. And should you hold the coins for longer than one year, any capital gains are generally tax-free in Germany. An advantage that hardly any other form of investment can offer.

Who is this package suited for?

  • Strategic investors: The 10-piece denomination offers an attractive entry point into larger gold positions while providing high flexibility for selling individual coins later
  • Those thinking ahead: Gold has served as long-term retirement provision for generations and can easily be passed down from generation to generation
  • Crisis planners: As a globally recognized medium of exchange, gold offers protection against political and economic upheaval
  • Collectors with foresight: The 2026 year of issue in Brilliant Uncirculated quality – straight from the tube, a delight for every numismatist

Compared to a single gold bar of the same weight, ten individual ounce coins offer a decisive advantage: divisibility. You don't have to sell everything at once but can flexibly withdraw individual coins – depending on need and market conditions. At the same time, you benefit from the worldwide instant recognizability of the Vienna Philharmonic, which facilitates trading anywhere on earth.

Conclusion: Sound cast in gold

The Vienna Philharmonic combines the best of two worlds – Austrian cultural history and uncompromising investment quality. Ten of them, securely stored in the original tube, form an investor package that is second to none. 311 grams of fine gold in 999.9 purity. Tax-free upon purchase. Tradeable worldwide. And of a beauty that must be held in your hands to truly be understood.
