Molten gold flows from the crucible into an ingot mould

Heimerle + Meule · Pforzheim

Gold with a face value.

It began with the dust of the workshops.

Jewellery has been made in Pforzheim since the 18th century. Wherever there is filing, sawing and polishing, precious metal falls to the floor as fine dust and ends up in the sweepings.

The entrepreneur Julius Dittler founds a sweepings works, a “Kehretsanstalt”, to recover precious metal from production waste.

1845

This is the year the story of Heimerle + Meule begins. To this day, the date appears in the mark of the house.

Inside the works

From scrap to bar.

  1. Old silver, coins and pieces of jewellery slide from a shovel into a glowing crucible

    The scrap

Jewellery, coins, cutlery, dental gold and industrial residues: from these, the house recovers precious metal today.

  2. A melter pours molten metal from the crucible, sparks flying

    The pour

Gold melts at 1,064 degrees Celsius, silver at 962 degrees. The melter pours the molten metal from the crucible into the mould.

  3. Gold and silver bars by Heimerle + Meule on slate

    The bar

At the end comes the finished bar, bearing its weight and fineness. According to the company, the fine metals used are produced in its own refinery.

A house that carries on.

  1. 1945

    In ruins

On 23 February an air raid destroys Pforzheim’s town centre. The company’s building is also lost in the war. Afterwards, it makes a fresh start in the premises of a jewellery and watch factory.

  2. 1977

    The Brötzinger Tal

The company moves out of the town centre to the Brötzinger Tal, a valley that had been filled in after the war, partly with the rubble of the old town. Its headquarters have been there ever since.

  3. 2010

    Bars for investors

Heimerle + Meule launches its investment products division. Today, bars, boxes and cards for investors are part of its range.

  4. 2014

    Good Delivery

On 3 June the London Bullion Market Association admits the company to its Good Delivery List, the register of recognised gold refiners. It has remained on the list since that day.

MALTA CoinBars

The Maltese cross.

The small bar bears the Maltese cross, its fineness and weight, the lettering Malta, the year 2026 and a face value in euros: 3 euros on the one-gram gold bar, 1.50 euros on the half-gram gold bar, 15 euro cents on the one-gram silver bar.

According to Heimerle + Meule, the coin bars are issued under licence from the Central Bank of Malta.

On the bar

What the marks say.

999.9
The fineness in parts per thousand: out of 1,000 parts, 999.9 are pure gold.
1845
The caster. Since 1933 he has been the emblem of the house. In the round stamp, he stands above the year 1845.
melter assayer
The one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. Next to these words stands the mark of the house.
HEIMERLE + MEULE
The company has borne this name since the second half of the 19th century.

From dust came a name.

Made to last.

The idea of the sweepings works lives on, too: recovering and refining precious metal has been the heart of the house since its founding.

100 x 1g Malta Minted Bar UnityBox by Heimerle + Meule

One hundred individual gram bars, a well-thought-out box, one clear goal: solid security for uncertain times. These are the arguments in favour of the Malta CoinBars from Heimerle + Meule:

  • Crisis protection: Small denomination minted bars are excellent as a means of payment and exchange when the familiar financial system grinds to a halt.
  • Investment goal: With these minted bars, you effectively protect your wealth against future crises and the creeping erosion of purchasing power.
  • Value preservation: Each bar is a compact store of value that preserves and safeguards the real equivalent of your savings across generations.
  • Hedging: During periods of inflation, recession, and runaway government debt, a tangible asset of this kind provides a solid foundation.
  • Inflation hedge: While paper currencies lose purchasing power, precious metals retain their intrinsic value.

A Minted Bar – the Best of Coin and Bar

A minted bar is a rectangular bar that bears a coin stamp and at first glance resembles a classic ingot. Thanks to the stamped face value of 3 euros, each piece holds the status of a genuine coin in its country of issue, Malta, and is recognised there as official legal tender. The CoinBar concept thus combines the minting quality of a coin with the substance of pure gold: each bar consists of fine gold with a fineness of 999/1,000, and the total fine weight of the box is 100 grams. In this way, the manufacturer adds an equally charming and practical dimension to the classic gold bar.

The Malta CoinBars were developed in collaboration with the Central Bank of Malta, licensed through the Royal Dutch Mint, and manufactured by Heimerle + Meule. The design is inspired by the Maltese capital Valletta and stands for permanence and value preservation. The individual bars in the UnityBox are neatly encapsulated and delivered as Brilliant Uncirculated new goods with a certificate of authenticity.

Heimerle + Meule – Tradition from Baden-Württemberg

Behind the product stands a name of considerable weight: Heimerle + Meule was founded in 1845 in the gold city of Pforzheim and is Germany's oldest gold and silver refinery – one of the most tradition-rich addresses in the world for the processing of precious metals. Anyone purchasing a bar from Baden-Württemberg receives quality from an LBMA-certified manufacturer with over 180 years of experience. This heritage inspires confidence – a factor that carries particular weight when it comes to security.

Why Small Denominations Prove Their Worth in a Crisis

The great appeal of this UnityBox lies in its small denominations. One hundred bars of 1 gram each can be removed individually, given as gifts, or exchanged without having to part with a large amount of value at once. Such small units in gold and silver – whether as 1-gram gold bars or as complementary silver coins – are popular products for various emergency situations, whether at home or abroad. They can easily be carried in a wallet while travelling without attracting attention, offering a high degree of security and flexibility.

Those who prefer individual pieces will find the ideal entry point with the 1g gold bar, while the slightly larger 10g gold bar combines more fine weight per piece. Compared to the gold CombiBar, also known as a Combibar or combination bar, where the gram sections are broken off from a single connected sheet, the minted bars in the UnityBox are fully independent, individually separated pieces. This is a practical advantage when it comes to easy divisibility and the seamless verification of each individual bar.

Gold as a Timeless Store of Value

Gold is the world's oldest currency and a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. In ancient Egypt it served as a unit of measure for trade, along the Silk Road it facilitated the exchange of goods, and for much of the 19th and 20th centuries the gold standard tied entire currencies to the precious metal. Gold has never had a value of zero, possesses intrinsic value, and protects against the loss of purchasing power. Physical gold is tradeable worldwide, highly liquid, and can be converted into cash at any time. It is no coincidence that the world's central banks hold vast gold reserves – a clear sign that they place only limited trust in unbacked fiat money. There is also a tax advantage: investment gold is exempt from VAT in Germany, and profits from its sale are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

Gold has shone for millennia – and will never lose its lustre. With the Malta UnityBox, you secure this enduring value in convenient, at-any-time divisible units.
