Some places you never forget. The Frauenkirche is such a place. Anyone who has ever walked across Munich's Frauenplatz in the evening knows the moment when the illuminated brick walls glow warmly and the two towers seem to grow into the night sky. The edition "Bavaria by Night – Frauenkirche 2026" captures exactly this atmosphere. It belongs to the "Cities and Landscapes" series and is one of the most extraordinary silver coins in our range. With a mintage of only 100 pieces, it is a true rarity for everyone who loves Bavarian motifs.

✔ The design: Munich's cathedral in the light of the stars

On one side, you see the Cathedral of Our Lady almost head-on. Between the towers lies the massive red tiled roof, the tall Gothic windows glow golden, and the clock faces of the towers stand out as dark circles. Above it stretches a deep blue sky with the Milky Way, and on the right a radiant full moon shines. On the horizon, a last streak of evening glow still glimmers in purple and orange. On the left, the white-and-blue diamond flag of Bavaria waves. In the foreground, the roofs of the old town shine along with a rain-soaked alley reflecting the lights of the houses. At the bottom edge is the inscription "1 OZ 9999 FINE SILVER 2026".

On the value side, the perspective changes. The two towers are set diagonally in the image here, so that their shimmering green domes seem almost close enough to touch. Once again, the moon and the Milky Way stand in the sky, with the city's silhouette featuring further church towers and domes outlined behind it. At the bottom, a curved band in the Bavarian diamond pattern frames the design, beneath which sits the small coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia. On the right edge is the face value "20 DOLLARS".

The real-life model is just as impressive. The late Gothic hall church made of brick was built between 1468 and 1488 under master builder Jörg von Halspach and consecrated in 1494. The famous "Welsh domes" were only added to the towers in 1525. The north tower stands 98.57 meters tall, the south tower 98.45 meters. The two towers still shape Munich's skyline today, since, following a citizens' referendum in 2004, no high-rise buildings taller than 99 meters may be built within the Mittlerer Ring.

✔ Refinement made in Germany: Color meets gold

The basis is one troy ounce of fine silver in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. Each coin is then refined in Germany by a specialized partner company exclusively for Kettner Edelmetalle. Two techniques work together here. The detailed coloring makes the night scene glow in vivid blue, violet, and copper tones on both sides. The partial gilding sets elegant accents: the reeded edge of the coin, the inscriptions, and the year shine in a warm gold tone, framing the design. Precision is essential during the refining process, so that even the smallest illuminated window remains sharply visible.

The manufacturer refers to the coin, not the refinement.

✔ 100 pieces: Why the limitation makes the difference

Classic bullion coins such as Maple Leaf or Krugerrand are minted in very high quantities every year. This makes them easy to trade, but for collectors they are rather unspectacular. With this edition, it's exactly the opposite. With a very low mintage, 100 coins meet Bavaria fans, theme collectors, and lovers of refined special editions, all searching for the same piece. Once the edition is sold out, nothing will be reproduced. This strict limitation is the reason behind the value appreciation potential of such rarities.

  • Rarity: 100 pieces worldwide make every coin a sought-after collector's item
  • Appearance: Color and gold accents clearly set the landmark apart from unrefined mintings
  • Substance: Beneath the refinement lies a full troy ounce of fine silver as a solid foundation
  • Good to know: The price is based on the collector's value and therefore exceeds the pure metal value. Anyone wishing to buy silver primarily by weight is better off choosing classic bullion coins. Please avoid touching the colored surfaces as much as possible; the capsule protects them reliably.

✔ Silver: a collector's metal with a long history

Silver has accompanied humanity for millennia as a coinage metal, means of payment, and symbol of wealth and prestige. It is durable, retains its properties across generations, and is therefore excellently suited as a family heirloom. Today, it is also used in electronics, photovoltaics, and medical technology, while supply remains limited. Many buyers also see this precious metal as a building block for their inflation hedge and crisis protection. With a rarity like this one, however, the joy of collecting and the rarity itself are clearly at the center. There is also a tax advantage: Under current German law, profits from the sale of physical silver are tax-free if you have held it for at least one year.
