The Perth Mint presents the horse under the heading “Symbol of strength”.

The series

One animal a year since 1996

In 1996 The Perth Mint became the first mint to release an Australian lunar programme, as it states. Each series follows the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac: Lunar I from 1996 to 2007, Lunar II from 2008 to 2019, Lunar III from 2020 to 2031.

Each year one animal is added, and the snake, the horse and the goat each have separate designs for gold and silver. The snake is the sixth animal of Lunar III, the horse the seventh, the goat the eighth.

Since the snake of 2025, the effigy side has shown King Charles III, portrayed by Dan Thorne.

The mint

The P of Perth

The Perth Mint was founded in a gold rush. In 1892 a find near Coolgardie set off Australia’s second great gold rush of the 19th century. Premier Sir John Forrest did not want the gold to leave Western Australia for processing and secured a branch of the Royal Mint in Perth.

On 20 June 1899 the first gold was processed and struck there, and The Perth Mint has operated continuously on the same site in East Perth ever since. The sovereigns from Perth carried a small P above the date.

The designs of the snake, the horse and the goat also bear a P, as The Perth Mint’s mintmark. Today it is owned by the State of Western Australia.

"The horse has symbolised strength, freedom and untamed elegance for thousands of years – qualities that are perfectly reflected in this limited silver set."

Artistic Design with Symbolic Power

The detailed depiction shows a magnificent mare with her playful foal in dynamic motion. Their elegantly flowing manes convey pure joie de vivre and freedom. In the background, imposing mountain ranges rise up, forming a fascinating contrast to the sweeping grasslands. The traditional Chinese character for "horse" as well as the inscription "HORSE 2026" lend the design additional cultural depth.

Investment Highlight with Extreme Rarity Value

As the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac, the horse represents people considered to be energetic, freedom-loving and full of joie de vivre. But this set is far more than just a homage to Chinese astrology – it is a strictly limited investment with extraordinary appreciation potential.

Why This Set Is So Sought After by Collectors:

The Perfect Addition to Any Collection

Silver has proven itself as a stable store of value over centuries. With its high industrial demand, particularly in electronics and solar technology, as well as its limited availability, it offers long-term value stability. This limited set combines all the advantages of the precious metal with the additional collector's value of an extremely rare special edition.

The elegant display stand presents all three coins in style and makes the set a true eye-catcher in any display case. With a diameter of 40.90 mm per coin and a face value of 1 AUD each, these are official Australian legal tender with a guaranteed precious metal content.

"In times of economic uncertainty, strictly limited silver coins offer a fascinating combination of tangible asset and collector's item – a tradition that has endured for generations."

Secure one of the few available sets of this rarity now, before it is too late. Experience shows: with such low mintages, sets are often sold out faster than you might think. An investment in this exclusive Lunar III Horse set means owning a piece of numismatic history – with excellent prospects for positive performance.
