Name and year
The series
One animal a year since 1996
In 1996 The Perth Mint became the first mint to release an Australian lunar programme, as it states. Each series follows the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac: Lunar I from 1996 to 2007, Lunar II from 2008 to 2019, Lunar III from 2020 to 2031.
Each year one animal is added, and the snake, the horse and the goat each have separate designs for gold and silver. The snake is the sixth animal of Lunar III, the horse the seventh, the goat the eighth.
Since the snake of 2025, the effigy side has shown King Charles III, portrayed by Dan Thorne.

The mint
The P of Perth
The Perth Mint was founded in a gold rush. In 1892 a find near Coolgardie set off Australia’s second great gold rush of the 19th century. Premier Sir John Forrest did not want the gold to leave Western Australia for processing and secured a branch of the Royal Mint in Perth.
On 20 June 1899 the first gold was processed and struck there, and The Perth Mint has operated continuously on the same site in East Perth ever since. The sovereigns from Perth carried a small P above the date.
The designs of the snake, the horse and the goat also bear a P, as The Perth Mint’s mintmark. Today it is owned by the State of Western Australia.

The finish
Proof in silver
On the proof coin, the frosted design stands on a mirror-polished field, as The Perth Mint describes it.
It bears the design of the year’s silver coin.

The fascinating story behind the design
The year 2026 is entirely dedicated to the Horse – the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. An ancient legend tells of a great race proclaimed by the Emperor. The horse galloped powerfully through the raging river and nearly came in sixth place. However, the cunning snake leapt from its hiding place at the last moment, startled the noble steed, and thus secured sixth place for itself. This story lends the coin a special cultural depth.
"The horse symbolises strength, freedom and boundless vitality – qualities that also distinguish this unique silver coin."

Impressive details of the design
The obverse features a breathtaking scene: a majestic mare gallops with her young foal through a sweeping grassland. The flowing manes, billowing dynamically in the wind, convey pure movement and freedom. In the background, imposing mountain ranges rise up, lending depth to the composition. The Chinese character for "horse" as well as the inscription "HORSE 2026" and the characteristic "P" of the Perth Mint complete the artistic design.

Silver as a crisis-proof investment for generations
In times of economic uncertainty, savvy investors seek stable values. Silver has proven itself as a reliable store of value over millennia. Industrial demand, particularly in electronics, solar, and medical technology, is continuously rising. At the same time, supply is limited – a combination that promises long-term value stability.
Particularly attractive: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This half ounce offers the perfect entry into the world of precious metals – affordable compared to gold, but with enormous potential for the future.
Technical perfection meets collector's passion
With a diameter of 32.60 mm and a fine weight of exactly 15.55 grams of pure silver (999.9/1,000), this coin meets the highest quality standards. The reverse is adorned with the portrait of King Charles III., masterfully crafted by Dan Thorne, complemented by the technical specifications.
