Name and year
The series
One animal a year since 1996
In 1996 The Perth Mint became the first mint to release an Australian lunar programme, as it states. Each series follows the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac: Lunar I from 1996 to 2007, Lunar II from 2008 to 2019, Lunar III from 2020 to 2031.
Each year one animal is added, and the snake, the horse and the goat each have separate designs for gold and silver. The snake is the sixth animal of Lunar III, the horse the seventh, the goat the eighth.
Since the snake of 2025, the effigy side has shown King Charles III, portrayed by Dan Thorne.

The mint
The P of Perth
The Perth Mint was founded in a gold rush. In 1892 a find near Coolgardie set off Australia’s second great gold rush of the 19th century. Premier Sir John Forrest did not want the gold to leave Western Australia for processing and secured a branch of the Royal Mint in Perth.
On 20 June 1899 the first gold was processed and struck there, and The Perth Mint has operated continuously on the same site in East Perth ever since. The sovereigns from Perth carried a small P above the date.
The designs of the snake, the horse and the goat also bear a P, as The Perth Mint’s mintmark. Today it is owned by the State of Western Australia.

Silver – The Underestimated Precious Metal with Enormous Potential
While many investors focus primarily on gold, silver offers unique advantages. Industrial demand, particularly in electronics, solar and medical technology, is growing continuously. At the same time, availability is limited. This combination creates an exciting tension between supply and demand.
- Tax-free gains: After a holding period of just one year, your gains are completely tax-free
- High liquidity: Silver can be converted into cash anywhere in the world without difficulty
- Affordable entry point: Compared to gold, silver enables even small investors to build a solid precious metals portfolio
- Historical currency: For thousands of years, silver has served as a means of payment and store of value
Perfect Crisis Protection for Uncertain Times
In a world full of economic uncertainties, physical silver offers an invaluable advantage: it retains its intrinsic value. While paper money can be devalued by inflation, silver has survived every currency crisis in history. The 2 oz Silver Lunar III Horse 2026 is therefore not just a coin – it is your personal insurance against currency turbulence.
Particularly noteworthy: many central banks hold silver as a reserve currency. This underscores the fundamental importance of the precious metal for the stability of the global financial system. As a private investor, you can benefit from this wisdom and place your wealth on a solid foundation.
The Perth Mint – Synonymous with Excellence
Since 1899, the Perth Mint has stood for the highest minting quality. As one of the world's most renowned mints, it guarantees not only the purity and weight of every individual coin, but also its artistic perfection. The Lunar Series III continues this tradition impressively.
The combination of 999.9 fine silver, masterful minting technique and limited mintage makes this coin a must-have for every serious collector and far-sighted investor. The face value of 2 AUD additionally grants it the status of an official legal tender in Australia.
