The elephant
The eldest knows the way.
Elephants live in families. A herd usually consists of related females and their young, led by the matriarch, as a rule the oldest and most experienced. She knows where to find food and water. When danger looms, the herd forms a ring, the young in the middle.
In a study published in 2001, researchers used playback experiments to show that the oldest female’s better ability to discriminate can influence the social knowledge of the whole group. Elephants can communicate through deep calls that lie partly below the range of human hearing and carry a long way.
The trunk is nose and upper lip at once. It lifts a log, and just as well a single piece of straw.

The Silver Somalia Elephant 2026 in Day Design is one of the most appealing editions in the world-renowned African Wildlife series. As a color-enhanced collector's coin with a very low mintage, it combines artistic design, premium material quality, and strong collector appeal. Those familiar with the series know that it is precisely the strictly limited color editions that are especially sought after by enthusiasts.
A design full of life: the 2026 Day Design
The colorized Day Design captures a scene from the African savanna in warm daylight. In the foreground stand two fully grown African elephants, accompanied by a zebra drinking at a waterhole – in the background, another pachyderm strides toward the oasis. The fine color enhancement brings out the fur, landscape, and sky with striking depth, making every detail visible. The coin's edge bears the inscriptions "African Wildlife" and "Elephant," along with the markings "1 oz" and "Ag 999.9."
The reverse features the national coat of arms of the Republic of Somalia: a shield with a five-pointed star, supported by two leopards, beneath which are two crossed spears and palm fronds. The coat of arms is complemented by the inscription "SOMALI REPUBLIC 100 SHILLINGS" along with the year of minting. The face value of 100 shillings makes this edition official legal tender in Somalia.
Material, fineness, and origin
This Somalia silver coin consists of a full ounce (31.1 g) of silver with an exceptionally high fineness of 999.9/1,000. With a diameter of 39.00 mm, it meets international standards and is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition in a protective coin capsule. The edition is minted by the time-honored Bavarian State Mint – making the African Wildlife series a German-made product issued as an agency edition under license from Somalia.
Why silver convinces collectors and investors
Silver has a history spanning thousands of years as a coinage metal and continues to be traded worldwide as a commodity to this day. In addition to its high collector value, this precious metal offers real, physically tangible worth, strong industrial demand in electronics, solar, and medical technology, as well as a limited supply. As part of the popular silver coins category, this edition is excellently suited for diversifying a physical precious metals collection and can be passed down through generations.
A special note for collectors: in Germany, profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free, provided the minimum holding period of one year is observed.
Rarity with future potential
The mintage of just 5,000 pieces makes this edition a true rarity within the series. The proven combination of strict mintage limitation, artistic colorization, and the worldwide popularity of elephant motifs results in notable appreciation potential – many older vintages of the series are traded today well above their original issue price. Beyond its collector appeal, physical silver has traditionally also offered solid value retention, valued as both an inflation hedge and as crisis protection. Thus, the 1 oz Silver Somalia Elephant 2026 in Day Design combines the appeal of a limited collector's coin with the enduring value of a genuine precious metal.
