The side with the leaves
An autumn in the engraver’s garden
When Stan Witten moved to Ottawa, he fell in love with the maples. The Royal Canadian Mint quotes him: “I even planted a few in our backyard, and those trees provided the inspiration for this design.”
“In the fall of 2023, as the leaves were coming down, I gathered some and placed them on the ground to form the arrangement seen here,” says Witten. According to the Mint, they are sugar maple leaves, arguably the most famous maple tree in Canada.
Arranged, photographed, sketched, sculpted
Gently overlapping, the leaves are tilted towards the right, as though they are falling or have just landed on the ground. That is how the Mint describes them. “Depending on the art style,” says Witten, who was an engraver for 35 years, “a subtle 3D form is more interesting than a series of carved lines”, and a lot of negative space keeps the focus on the leaves.

The Triple Maple is a design of the Royal Canadian Mint, first issued in 2025 and for the second time in 2026.
The side with the effigy shows King Charles III in a portrait by Steven Rosati, and below it is the face value, 200 DOLLARS.
The finish
Matte Proof with black rhodium
According to the Royal Canadian Mint, Matte Proof is a finish unique to it: like Proof, but with a satin field instead of a high-gloss one. In 2026 black rhodium was added, as part of the Mint’s issue. It fills the field on both sides, and the leaves stand out in relief in front of it.

A Classic, Completely Reimagined
Hardly any bullion coin enjoys as much trust worldwide as Canada's classic maple leaf design. Anyone familiar with the classic Gold Maple Leaf as a plain bullion coin will experience an entirely different facet here: an elaborately refined collector's edition in Proof quality. Instead of the usual matte-shiny bullion surface, a deep black shimmering mirror background meets gilded maple leaves. The result is a showpiece that makes an immediate impression in hand – presenting Canada's familiar ambassador in an entirely new guise.
The reverse presents not a single leaf, but three artfully staggered sugar maple leaves. The foremost leaf stands out in relief, while those behind create depth and movement. The design is framed by the inscriptions "CANADA", "9999", and "FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR". The obverse features the portrait of King Charles III (engraving "SR", Steven Rosati), flanked by "CHARLES III", the year of issue "2026", the addition "D · G · REX", and the face value "200 DOLLARS". The reeded edge rounds off the high-quality overall impression.
Particularly appealing for collectors is the strict limitation: the mintage is limited to just 550 pieces worldwide. The coin is delivered protected in a coin capsule. While the regular Maple Leaf is available in various years in practically unlimited quantities and scores primarily on its pure gold value, this special edition combines the material value of a full troy ounce with genuine numismatic rarity – a distinction that can shape its collector's value over the years.
Why Gold Is a Proven Store of Value
Gold is the world's oldest currency and has been a reliable store of value for over 6,000 years. It has never been worth zero, as it possesses an inherent, intrinsic value that is recognized worldwide. While central banks can expand fiat money almost without limit, the supply of gold is naturally scarce – a key reason for its long-term value stability. It is no coincidence that central banks themselves are among the largest gold holders in the world.
Gold has shone for millennia – and it will not lose its shine in the future either. It protects against loss of purchasing power and can be traded worldwide at any time.
For investors and collectors alike, this coin is doubly interesting: it combines physical precious metal as protection against inflation and currency risks with the fascination of a limited edition. Added to this is the tax advantage – investment gold is exempt from VAT in Germany, and after a minimum holding period of one year, capital gains are tax-free. This troy ounce can thus be understood both as a building block for long-term retirement provision and as a store of value that can be passed down from generation to generation.
