Design side: the ark on the waves, in the foreground a dove with an olive branch, behind it a mountain with two peaks and the rising sun, around it NOAH’S ARK and an Armenian inscription

The mountain

Visible from Yerevan

Anyone who comes to Yerevan can see Ararat rising in the distance. Many houses in the city are built of pink tuff, compacted volcanic ash. At sunrise and sunset, their colour glows brightest.

The mountain is over 5,100 metres high and today lies in Turkey. Beside its main summit stands Little Ararat. On the coin, too, the mountain has two peaks.

The design side

The dove flies towards the ark

Dove, ark and sun, details from the product image

In the centre, the ark drifts on the waves, a ship of planks with small windows and a superstructure like a house. From the left comes the dove with outstretched wings, an olive branch in its beak.

Behind it, the sun rises between the two peaks, and its crown of rays fills the whole upper part. Along the top runs the Armenian inscription, and at the bottom right stands NOAH’S ARK.

The design is by Eduard Kurghinyan. It refers to the account of the ark coming to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

The value side

The mountain appears twice on every coin

At the centre of the coat of arms: the mountain and the ark above the waves

The value side bears the national coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia. An eagle and a lion support the shield, and at its centre, as the Constitution lays down, stand Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark.

So every Noah’s Ark coin bears Ararat twice: small in the coat of arms and large as a landscape behind the ark.

The coat of arms goes back to a design by the architect Alexander Tamanian and the painter Hakob Kojoyan.

The first bullion coin of the Central Bank of Armenia

It is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia, which calls the ark the most expressive symbol of Armenian history. In Armenia, the coin is legal tender at its face value.

It is minted in Germany, by Geiger Edelmetalle AG. To the left of the coat of arms is the mint mark, LEV, to the right the weight and fineness, and below the coat of arms the face value in drams and the year.

25,000 at most, per size and year

The Central Bank limits Noah’s Ark in gold to this number.

Each gold coin lies, together with a serially numbered certificate of authenticity, in a security capsule that cannot be opened without destroying it.

The drawing on the certificate changes every year: in 2026 it shows a wolf. The design of the coin stays the same.

The certificate bears the signatures of the governor of the Central Bank and the director of the mint.

The same design every year, only the year is new

Since 2011, Noah’s Ark has appeared in silver every year, and since 2020 in gold as well.

A branch in its beak, a mountain in the morning light.

Olive branches are regarded as a sign of peace, in the emblem of the United Nations too.

Gold is considered the oldest currency in the world and has outlasted every paper currency over millennia. With the 1 g Gold Noah's Ark 2026, you hold exactly this proven substance in a particularly handy form: one gram of purest fine gold, issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia and minted in an elaborate process by Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung (LEV) in Germany. As expressive as the design may be, the actual reason for buying lies in the material value: it is primarily based on the gold content and thus on the gold price.

Strictly limited edition with real substance

With a mintage of only 25,000 pieces worldwide, the 2026 year of issue is deliberately kept scarce. This strict limitation makes the edition a true rarity, which is also sought after as a collector's coin – however, at its core, you are acquiring full-fledged investment gold, not merely a souvenir. The limited quantity in particular can further support the value appreciation potential in the event of sustained demand. Added to this is a high recognition value and the worldwide fame of the series.

Design: ark, dove of peace and Mount Ararat

The finely crafted design shows the ark as a traditional ship with a curved hull on stylized waves. Behind it rises the mountain silhouette of Ararat, illuminated by a fan-shaped rising sun. In the foreground, the dove of peace spreads its intricately embossed wings and carries the olive branch in its beak – that sign from biblical tradition: the returning bird signaled to Noah that the flood was receding and the ark could be left. The obverse bears the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia, the face value of 100 Dram, weight, fineness, and the year of minting.

Why compact gold makes a convincing investment

As a proven inflation hedge and reliable crisis protection, gold has accompanied humanity for over 6,000 years – it has never been worth zero and protects against loss of purchasing power. It is precisely the small format that plays to its strengths here: it is easily divisible, easy to transport, and in uncertain times can even be used as a handy medium of exchange for smaller everyday transactions – a symbolic lifeboat for one's own wealth. Like many sought-after gold coins, this one-gram gold coin can also be sold again at any time.

  • Wealth preservation in physical, tangible form
  • Wealth building in small steps – many units add up over the years
  • High tradability and liquidity worldwide
  • Maximum portability thanks to its small size of only 16.54 mm
  • Tax-attractive: gold is exempt from VAT; capital gains are generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year

Quality "Made in Germany" with certificate of authenticity

Every coin is produced in one of the most modern private mints in Germany and undergoes strict quality control. As legal tender of Armenia, it is subject to the requirements of the Central Bank, which guarantees purity, weight, and minting quality. The new item is delivered in bank-standard condition on a blister card with certificate of authenticity and individual numbering – shipped as insured shipping. Anyone wanting to buy physical investment gold will find a solid, globally recognized entry point here. As a genuine gold investment to give as a gift – for example for a christening, birthday, or wedding – this edition is also convincing, because what is given is a lasting asset.
