The emblem

Two names in one circle

The emblem, enlarged from the product photo.

Argor-Heraeus bars bear a circle with the legend ARGOR HERAEUS SA and the letters AH at its centre. Below it is the word Switzerland.

Further down is the assayer’s mark with AH and MELTER ASSAYER, the one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. In Switzerland, every cast or minted bar must bear such an assayer’s mark.

From Chiasso to Mendrisio

  1. 1951

    Argento and oro

In Ticino, Emilio Weiss and Elvio Zoppi found Argor SA, a precious metals foundry. The name combines argento and oro, the Italian words for silver and gold.

  2. 1986

    Argor-Heraeus

The Heraeus Group takes a stake alongside UBS, and Argor becomes Argor-Heraeus. The plant in Chiasso has grown too small, and the first decision of the new board of directors is a new one in Mendrisio. It opens two years later.

The signature on the card

The card, enlarged from the product photo.

In our product photos, the red card shows the weight and the fineness and, under Certified Assayer, the signature Marsan.

Alessandro Ruffoni had been a sworn assayer at Argor-Heraeus since 1991, licensed by the Swiss Central Office for Precious Metals Control. His signature appeared on the certificates of bars from Argor-Heraeus and from Heraeus. After his retirement in 2023, it was gradually replaced by that of Simone Marsan.

When tradition meets the highest minting craftsmanship, masterpieces are born. The 1 troy ounce gold bar Argor Heraeus "Year of the Horse 2026" is exactly that: a masterpiece made of gold that unites cultural symbolism, Swiss precision, and the timeless value of the noblest of all metals in a single piece. With a strictly limited mintage of only 18,888 pieces, this gold bar appeals equally to discerning collectors and forward-thinking investors.

The Horse – Symbol of Freedom, Strength, and Energy

In the Chinese zodiac, the horse holds a special place as the seventh animal. It embodies freedom, inexhaustible energy, strength, and endurance – qualities that translate wonderfully to the nature of gold. After all, gold too knows no fatigue. For over 6,000 years, it has proven itself as a store of value, outlasting empires, surviving currencies, and carrying generations of people through crises.

The year 2026 marks the Year of the Horse in the Chinese calendar. Argor-Heraeus has used this occasion to create a bar that is far more than a pure investment product. The mintage figure of 18,888 is no coincidence: in Chinese culture, the number eight is considered the ultimate lucky number. Three eights – promising threefold luck.

Why Gold Is the Ultimate Inflation Hedge

While paper money can be printed – and in ever greater quantities – gold remains a scarce commodity. No one can multiply it at will. This very characteristic makes it the perfect inflation hedge. When the purchasing power of the euro dwindles, when central banks open the monetary floodgates, and governments drive debt to dizzying heights – that is when gold shows its true strength.

"Gold is money. Everything else is credit." – J.P. Morgan

This quote has lost none of its relevance. On the contrary. The world's largest central banks are hoarding gold in their vaults – an unmistakable signal that even the guardians of fiat money only trust their own system to a limited degree. Those who act wisely follow this example.

Tax Advantages That Convince

Gold enjoys privileged tax treatment in Germany. The purchase of this bar is completely VAT-free. And it gets even better: if you hold your gold bar for at least one year, profits from the sale are generally tax-free. This is an advantage that hardly any other form of investment can offer.

Where a Collector's Heart Meets an Investor's Mind

What makes this bar so special is the combination of two worlds. On the one hand, it is a pure investment product – a full troy ounce of fine gold at the highest purity of 999.9/1,000. On the other hand, the limited mintage, the culturally significant design, and the first-class craftsmanship give it a collector's value that goes beyond its pure material worth.

Compared to classic investment bars without a design, the "Year of the Horse 2026" thus offers a decisive added value: it tells a story. It carries symbolism within it. And it is limited to 18,888 pieces – a number that will not recur.

Your Personal Crisis Protection from Switzerland

Whether geopolitical tensions, banking crises, or currency turmoil – gold has proven itself as a safe haven in every conceivable crisis. This bar is more than a piece of metal. It is your personal crisis protection, your insurance against the unforeseeable, your anchor in stormy times. Gold has never had a value of zero. No paper currency in the world can claim that.

Secure one of the strictly limited 18,888 pieces now and combine the fascination of the Chinese zodiac with the timeless security of gold. A bar that endures – when everything else fades away.
