British coins carried five portraits of Elizabeth II, from Mary Gillick to Jody Clark. A portrait of the Queen in an openwork oval, set with crystals.

The faces of the Crown

One face, seven decades

Mary Gillick showed Elizabeth II with a laurel wreath instead of a crown, and Jody Clark chose the diadem of her coronation in 2015: the first and the fifth of her portraits on British coins.

On the first decimal coins of 1968, Arnold Machin replaced the wreath with a diadem, a wedding present from Queen Mary. For the portrait from 1985 onwards, Raphael Maklouf first worked from photographs and was then granted two sittings. From 1998, Ian Rank-Broadley let the portrait fill the field, because the coins had become smaller.

Many commemorative pieces for the Queen come from small issuing countries in the Pacific, such as Niue, Tokelau and the Cook Islands, until 2023 with the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley and his initials IRB.

On British coins the portrait of Charles III is by Martin Jennings; the King approved it himself. The Queen’s British coins remained valid: some 27 billion were in circulation when the first circulating coins with Charles were struck.

1536 · Hampton Court

Ten guardians on the bridge

In 1536 Henry VIII had the stone bridge over the moat at Hampton Court completed, built of brick and more than 600 tonnes of stone. On it stood ten heraldic beasts, the King’s Beasts, displaying the King’s ancestry.

In the 17th century the bridge and the beasts vanished into the moat for more than 150 years. When the excavation began in 1909, only fragments of the beasts were found; the figures guarding the entrance today are copies from the 1950s.

2 June 1953 · Westminster

Ten beasts in plaster

For the coronation of Elizabeth II, ten heraldic beasts stood outside the Abbey’s glass-fronted annexe, designed by Eric Bedford: six feet tall, made of plaster, the work of James Woodford. His model was the King’s Beasts of Hampton Court.

The ten beasts chosen were those that best showed the Queen’s ancestry, from the Lion of England and the Griffin of Edward III to the Unicorn of Scotland and the White Horse of Hanover.

Copies in Portland stone stand guard at Kew outside the Palm House, a gift in 1956; the plaster figures have belonged to Canada since 1959.

The Sovereign

A gold coin travels the world

Henry VII gave the name Sovereign to a new gold coin in 1489. In the 19th century the Sovereign was called the “chief coin of the world”, accepted even in Brazil.

The Royal Mint also struck it at branch mints, from Sydney from 1855 to Pretoria from 1923, almost 500 million pieces in all. Today the Australian Sovereign of the Perth Mint shows a new St George, drawn by Jennifer McKenna.

There are coins you buy. And there are coins you covet. This one undoubtedly belongs to the second category. The 2 oz silver Queen Elizabeth II. 2026 is far more than a numismatic collectible – it is a work of art crafted from the purest fine silver, pushing the boundaries of what a coin can be.

A Tribute to Britain's Longest-Reigning Monarch

Created to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II., this extraordinary collector's coin is a masterpiece in every sense. The design on the obverse features a masterfully crafted, three-dimensional portrait of Her Majesty – complete with crown, fur stole, and iconic pearl necklace. The level of detail is simply breathtaking: every curl, every fold, every gemstone of the crown has been rendered with a precision rarely found in silver coins.

What truly makes this coin unique, however, is its oval shape and the artful filigree technique. The jewellery-like frame of the finest silver ornaments – intertwined tendrils and scrollwork – surrounds the central portrait like a precious picture frame. Embedded within this delicate border, genuine crystals sparkle, lending the piece an almost jewel-like character.

The Reverse: Filigree Art in Perfection

Turn the coin over and an equally impressive image is revealed. At the centre of the reverse sits a medallion featuring the side profile of King Charles III., surrounded by the inscription "CHARLES III · 2026 · SOLOMON ISLANDS" along with the details "2 oz", "$5" and "Ag .999". The entire field surrounding this medallion is adorned with breathtakingly intricate openwork – a pattern of countless small ornaments reminiscent of precious lacework. You have to hold this coin in your hands to truly appreciate the complexity of this minting.

Why This Coin Is a True Collector's Highlight

With a mintage of only 999 pieces worldwide, this is a rarity of the highest order. Such low mintage figures are a clear signal in the world of numismatics: those who hesitate will miss out. The combination of historically significant design, artisanal brilliance, and extreme limitation makes this issue an object that should be absent from no serious collection.

Silver has a millennia-old history as a coinage metal and has been valued by the most diverse cultures as a symbol of wealth and prestige. This tradition lives on in an impressive way in pieces such as the Queen Elizabeth II. 2026.

Silver also offers tangible advantages as a store of value. Industrial demand – in electronics, solar technology, and medicine, for example – is continuously rising, while supply remains naturally limited. Gains from the sale of silver are furthermore generally tax-free, provided the holding period is at least one year. Particularly for collectors who preserve their treasures over the long term, this is an advantage not to be underestimated.

Exclusive Presentation in a Collector's Case

The coin is delivered in an elegant black case, the interior of which features a certificate of authenticity. The design of the certificate echoes the filigree motif of the coin and bears the inscription "100th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II." Nestled on black velvet, the silver masterpiece is displayed to perfect effect. A piece you don't simply lock away, but one you bring out again and again to admire.

Whether as the centrepiece of an existing collection of British motifs, as an introduction to the fascinating world of strictly limited special editions, or as an enduring gift with a lasting impression – this 2-ounce silver coin combines everything that makes an outstanding collector's item. Secure one of the few available pieces before the very low mintage is finally sold out. Because one thing is certain: with only 999 pieces worldwide, it won't be long.

Silver has always served as an inflation hedge and proven crisis protection – yet with a collector's item of this calibre, one thing above all takes centre stage: the pure joy of owning a truly unique object.
