Deutsche Mark 2026: The Icon of the Economic Miracle in 65mm Large Format

  • Strictly limited: Very low mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide
  • Growth opportunities: Very high value appreciation potential due to the consistent limitation and a loyal D-Mark collector community
  • Rarity: A rare collector's coin from the Kettner "Symbolism" series
  • Investment goal: A sought-after collector's piece that, due to its strict limitation, carries high value appreciation potential
  • Minting quality: Highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP) with mirrored fields and matte relief
  • Format: Impressive 65 mm diameter at exactly 1 troy ounce (31.1 grams) of fine silver with a fineness of 999.9/1,000
  • Design: The legendary numeral "1" between oak branches and the Federal Eagle, modeled after the Mark coin of 1950
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle, exclusive proprietary minting
  • Country of origin: Republic of Liberia, face value 20 Dollars

Hardly any coin has passed through as many hands as the Mark coin. For half a century, from 1950 to 2001, it sat in wallets, piggy banks and cash drawers across the Federal Republic, until the Euro replaced cash. Almost incidentally, it became the symbol of an entire era. With the 1 ounce Deutsche Mark 2026, Kettner Edelmetalle brings this icon back: as an exclusive collector's coin made of pure silver, struck in a mintage of only 500 pieces. Anyone looking for silver coins with genuine history will find exactly what they're looking for here.

A design everyone knows, retold on 65 millimeters

The original comes from Munich artist Josef Bernhart. His 1-DM circulation coin made of copper-nickel was rather modest at 23.5 mm. The new edition brings it to 65 mm, nearly tripling the diameter. Only on this surface does what hardly anyone noticed in everyday life become visible: the finely veined oak leaves, the small acorns on the branches, and the elegant pearl border enclosing the field. In the center sits the mighty "1", below it the inscription DEUTSCHE MARK and the year 2026.

The reverse side belongs to the Federal Eagle. With widely spread wings and scale-like feathering, it appears almost three-dimensional. The inscription "1 UNZE 9999 FEINSILBER" runs above, with DEUTSCHE MARK again below. Looking closely, one discovers the inscriptions "20 DOLLARS" and "Republic of Liberia" on the wings. Between the talons sits a discreet coat of arms of the issuing country. In this way, the official face value is integrated into the design without disturbing the overall nostalgic impression.

Proof: Mirror shine meets relief

Struck in Proof quality, the supreme discipline of coin production. Highly polished dies create deeply mirrored fields, against which the matte relief stands out sharply. At such a large diameter, this contrast is a real experience. A reeded edge rounds off the first-class quality. Each piece is delivered in a protective coin capsule. It should stay there too, since fingerprints are the natural enemy of any Proof surface.

Why 500 pieces make the difference

A look at D-Mark history is worthwhile. The most sought-after original years of the Mark coin, 1954 G and 1955 G from the Karlsruhe mint, are considered key pieces of their collecting field with 60,000 and 69,000 pieces respectively. The Deutsche Mark 2026 is many times scarcer. This very low mintage makes it a true rarity that will not simply be reissued once sold out.

It is exactly this limitation that excites collectors. A design known to millions of people from their everyday lives meets a mintage that would barely suffice for a small town. This results in pronounced value appreciation potential, even though future prices naturally cannot be guaranteed. For comparison: bullion classics like the Silver Krugerrand or the Maple Leaf appear in mintages running into the millions. This 1-ounce silver coin plays in an entirely different league of rarity.

"For generations, the Mark coin stood for reliability. This minting preserves that feeling in one troy ounce of pure fine silver."

In comparison: Which Deutsche Mark suits your collection?

Kettner Edelmetalle offers the design in several versions, each with its own appeal:

  • 1/50 ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026 (PP): Charming miniature format and a lovely gift. Naturally, little room remains for fine details.
  • 2 ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026: Double the silver weight, limited to 250 pieces and positioned accordingly higher.
  • 1 ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026, partially gilded (Reverse Proof): 100 pieces with golden accents for lovers of refined mintings.
  • This 65mm edition: The largest design surface for a 1-ounce coin and classic Proof look. Ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the original design in its purest form.

By the way: anyone who already owns the Reichsmark 2026 in 65mm format from the same series will find here the matching counterpart from Germany's post-war era.

Silver: The coinage metal with tradition

For thousands of years, silver has been a monetary and coinage metal: from ancient drachmas to thalers to the silver 5-DM coins. It is durable, retains its properties across generations, and was regarded in many cultures as a symbol of prosperity and prestige. Added to this is strong demand from industry, electronics, solar and medical technology against limited supply. Many buyers also value the metal as an inflation hedge and crisis protection. With this minting, however, collector value is clearly the focus. A tax advantage: profits from private sales in Germany are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

A piece of the D-Mark for the next generation

This coin fits as a centerpiece in your own collection or as a gift for parents and grandparents who grew up with the Mark. It tells a story you can hold in your hand, and one day pass on to children and grandchildren. Secure one of the strictly limited pieces now, before all 500 are sold out.
