Honey Bee 2025, 1 ounce of fine silver, reverse

On the reverse the honey bee flies above the comb, and on the obverse it sits in the flower head of a sunflower. Its time of the year is summer and winter.

Summer and winter · The honey bee

In summer the dance, in winter the cluster.

With the waggle dance a bee shows the others the direction and distance of a food source. If the dancer runs upwards, that means: towards the sun. Each waggle stands for 65 to 75 metres of flight.

The sun need not be visible for this: the pattern of polarised skylight is enough. In 1973 Karl von Frisch received the Nobel Prize for his research on bees, together with Konrad Lorenz and Nikolaas Tinbergen.

At the peak in May the queen can lay more than 1,000 eggs a day, and a summer bee lives about six weeks. As early as July, some winter bees live alongside many summer bees.

In winter they sit in the winter cluster. At its outer shell it is around 13 °C; when the outer bees cool down, they push inwards, and those that have warmed up move outwards. The warmth comes from muscle shivering.

“Honey bees are flower-constant: during a foraging flight they always stay true to one kind of flower.”
Deutscher Imkerbund

The design as struck

The wing veins finely engraved.

The bee flies above the comb, its wing veins are finely engraved, and beneath it a thistle and a composite flower bloom.

The loupe reveals how finely the design is struck.

Fascinating Design with Symbolic Depth

The obverse shows a majestically depicted honeybee in impressive detail. Every facet of the industrious insect has been crafted with the utmost care – from the delicate wings to the fine hairs on its body. The background is shaped by an artful honeycomb pattern that perfectly captures the bee's natural environment.

On the reverse, a magnificent flower unfolds in full bloom. The symbiosis between bee and flower, which is so significant for the ecological balance of our world, is masterfully immortalized here in silver coin form. Small bees swarm around the flower, lending the composition additional vibrancy.

Technical Perfection Meets a Collector's Heart

With a fine weight of exactly one troy ounce (31.10 grams) of pure silver (999.9/1,000) and a diameter of 40 mm, this rarity sits perfectly in the hand. The Proof minting quality creates a mirror-smooth background from which the frosted design elements stand out with striking contrast. This interplay creates a visual depth that reveals new details with every viewing.

"The Honeybee 2025 is not just a coin – it is a work of art that captures the beauty of nature in eternal silver while harboring enormous value appreciation potential."
