Own minting · 2 ounces of fine silver

Honey Bee 2026, 2 ounces of fine silver, reverse

On the reverse the honey bee flies above the comb, and on the obverse it sits in the flower head of a sunflower. Its time of the year is summer and winter.

Summer and winter · The honey bee

In summer the dance, in winter the cluster.

With the waggle dance a bee shows the others the direction and distance of a food source. If the dancer runs upwards, that means: towards the sun. Each waggle stands for 65 to 75 metres of flight.

The sun need not be visible for this: the pattern of polarised skylight is enough. In 1973 Karl von Frisch received the Nobel Prize for his research on bees, together with Konrad Lorenz and Nikolaas Tinbergen.

At the peak in May the queen can lay more than 1,000 eggs a day, and a summer bee lives about six weeks. As early as July, some winter bees live alongside many summer bees.

In winter they sit in the winter cluster. At its outer shell it is around 13 °C; when the outer bees cool down, they push inwards, and those that have warmed up move outwards. The warmth comes from muscle shivering.

“Honey bees are flower-constant: during a foraging flight they always stay true to one kind of flower.”
Deutscher Imkerbund

It is small, hums tirelessly, and carries an entire world on its wings: the honeybee. With the 2 oz Silver Honeybee 2026, Kettner Edelmetalle presents an extraordinary exclusive collector's coin that captures nature's fragile wonder in solid precious metal – and in a mintage so low that even die-hard numismatists will take notice.

A design that brings the world of bees to life

On the obverse, a finely engraved honeybee unfolds in impressive three-dimensionality. Its delicate wings, the fine hairs on its body, and the ridged abdominal rings appear so true to life that the insect seems ready to fly off at any moment. In the background: the iconic honeycomb pattern, reflecting the masterful architecture of bees. An echinacea blossom and a budding plant frame the scene like a quiet still life from a summer garden. The reverse surprises with a lushly blooming sunflower, on which a bee gathers nectar – a poetic image full of symbolism for industriousness, community, and vitality.

"If the bee disappeared from the earth, man would only have four years left to live." – a famous quote that sums up the significance of this small creature and makes the design of this coin all the more valuable.

Proof – the pinnacle of coin minting

The Proof finish is not merely a refinement – it is craftsmanship of the highest order. Multiple polished dies, fresh blanks, and a unique mirror-finish bring every detail to life in striking contrast. The frosted relief elements of the bee seem to float above the deep black, mirror-like background – a sight that captivates every collector.

Why this coin is so special

With a worldwide limitation of just 199 pieces in Proof, this issue is among the rarest mintages Kettner Edelmetalle has ever released. Whoever owns one of these pieces does not simply own a coin – they own a unique numismatic treasure that will never be minted in this form again. It is precisely this strict limitation that makes collectors' hearts beat faster and gives the coin its special appeal.

  • Denomination: 2 oz (62.21 g fine weight)
  • Fineness: 999.9/1,000 silver
  • Diameter: 55.00 mm – an impressive format to admire
  • Condition: Proof (first-strike quality)
  • Packaging: Elegant wooden case with certificate of authenticity

Silver – the white precious metal with character

Silver has captivated people for thousands of years. It is the metal of mint masters, jewelry craftsmen, and industry alike. While gold is the king of metals, silver is considered the metal of the people – tangible, honest, with intrinsic value. Add to that a tax advantage many collectors appreciate: profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. A charming feature that makes these silver coins especially attractive to collectors.

Who is the Honeybee 2026 in Proof intended for?

This issue is aimed at lovers of artistic minting, collectors of the "Animals on Land" series, and anyone who values rare pieces with history. Those who collect themed coins featuring animal and nature motifs will find a jewel here that elevates any display case. Compared to common bullion issues in Brilliant Uncirculated quality, such as the Lunar series or a Maple Leaf, the Honeybee stands out clearly thanks to its Proof finish and radically low mintage – an argument every numismatist will appreciate.

Secure one of the rare pieces of this extraordinary collector's coin now, before the mintage sells out. For what is strictly limited does not come again – and the honeybee flies away faster than you might think.
