From the rock

Its forearm bears the bumps where feather quills were anchored.

In many birds today, such bumps hold the quills of the flight feathers. They were described in 2007 on a bone from Mongolia.

No human has ever seen this animal alive: the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

There are coins you buy. And there are coins you must own. The 1 oz silver Prehistoric Life Velociraptor 2025 undoubtedly belongs to the second category. As the sixth edition of the spectacular "Prehistoric Life II" series, this collector's coin combines scientific precision, artistic brilliance, and the timeless value of the purest silver in a single, fascinating piece.

A Prehistoric Predator – Masterfully Immortalized

The obverse of this colorized coin transports the viewer directly into the Late Cretaceous period, around 75 to 71 million years ago. At the center is a Velociraptor mongoliensis in full action – hunting a small prey animal, its characteristic sickle-shaped claw ready to strike. Its feathered coat, confirmed by modern fossil discoveries, has been rendered with impressive attention to detail. In the background, a second Velociraptor lurks in front of a dramatic prehistoric mountain range, lending the scene cinematic depth.

The inscriptions "PREHISTORIC LIFE", "VELOCIRAPTOR MONGOLIENSIS", as well as the time period "75 – 71 MIO YEARS BC" and the year of issue 2025 frame the design. The edge of the coin also features the geological eras – Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous – along with their respective time spans. A fascinating detail for every paleontology enthusiast.

The reverse shows the national coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with its striking leopard head, flanked by a spear and tusk. Below are the details "1 oz Ag 999.9" and the face value of 20 Francs.

Only 10,000 Pieces – a True Rarity

What makes this coin so desirable for collectors and investors alike? The mintage of just 10,000 pieces worldwide. That is extraordinarily small. For comparison: many popular bullion coins are minted in the millions. Here we're talking about a true rarity, which already ranks among the top items at Kettner Edelmetalle. The strict limitation ensures that demand can quickly outstrip supply – a circumstance that, based on experience, considerably favors the appreciation potential of such silver coins.

The Velociraptor was a small but deadly efficient predatory dinosaur – about two meters long, feathered, and armed with a sickle-shaped claw that made it one of the most feared hunters of its time. Fossil discoveries from Mongolia prove its close relationship to the ancestors of today's birds.

Silver as a Timeless Investment

Beyond its collector's value, this coin offers everything that makes a solid silver investment. 31.1 grams of the purest fine silver with a purity of 999.9/1,000 – it simply doesn't get any better. Silver has proven itself as a store of value for thousands of years and still serves today as a reliable inflation hedge. While paper currencies come and go, the white precious metal retains its intrinsic value.

In addition, industrial demand for silver is continuously rising – whether in solar technology, electronics, or medical technology. Limited supply meets growing demand. For investors who want to combine their wealth protection with a passion for collecting, this coin is simply ideal.

Why This Particular Coin?

The "Prehistoric Life" series has built a loyal fan base in a very short time. Dinosaur designs on precious metal coins exert a very special appeal – they combine the fascination for a long-vanished world with the tangible value of physical silver. And the Velociraptor? It has been an icon of pop culture since at least the major blockbuster films of the 1990s.

Yet this coin goes far beyond Hollywood. It depicts the Velociraptor as science understands it today: feathered, agile, intelligent. A predator that roamed the steppes of what is now Mongolia millions of years ago. Holding this knowledge in 31.1 grams of the purest silver – that is something special.

Whether as an addition to your existing silver collection, as an entry point into the world of limited collector's coins, or as a long-term investment for retirement provision: the Velociraptor 2025 deserves a place in your portfolio. And don't forget – profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. Another reason to act now, before the very low mintage sells out.
