Kangaroo Nugget 2026

50 leaping kangaroos,in silver.

The classic kangaroo

A kangaroo in a sunburst

The silver coin bears a fixed design which, according to The Perth Mint, is based on the kangaroo Stuart Devlin created for the Australian Nugget of 1989: a kangaroo in mid-leap, ringed by stylised rays of sunlight.

The name

Why it is called Nugget

The Welcome Stranger was found by the miner John Deason on 5 February 1869 near Moliagul in Victoria, three centimetres deep among the roots of a tree. He hid the find until dark and then dug it out with his partner Richard Oates. In Dunolly the nugget, then the largest known in the world, had to be broken up on an anvil so that it would fit on the bank’s scales, as Museums Victoria reports.

This nugget and three other famous ones appeared on the first years of the series, in designs by Stuart Devlin. It began as The Australian Nugget.

Then came the kangaroo, according to The Perth Mint an icon of Australia that is more easily recognised all over the world. Since 2008 it has listed the bullion coin as the Australian Kangaroo; we still call the series Kangaroo Nugget, after the name under which it began in 1986.

The series

One design since 2016

The silver bullion coin has kept its design since it first appeared in 2016: the classic kangaroo in a sunburst. On the gold bullion coins up to one ounce, the kangaroo changes every year.

There had been a kangaroo on gold in Australia before. In 1853 Reginald Scaife reached Melbourne aboard the clipper Kangaroo, as manager of a private mint, the Kangaroo Office. With purpose-made dies he struck 27 sets of gold tokens, from a quarter ounce to two ounces, dated 1853.

Silver vs. Gold – The Clever Complement

While gold is considered the ultimate form of wealth protection, silver offers decisive advantages for your crisis protection: it is more affordable and thus accessible to every investor. The smaller value units are perfectly suited for everyday transactions in times of crisis. At the same time, you benefit from rising industrial demand – a factor that plays hardly any role in the case of gold.

The Australian Kangaroo series, formerly known as "Nugget", has been one of the most successful bullion coin series in the world since 1986. The Perth Mint guarantees not only authenticity and purity, but also consistently high minting quality. The reeded edge and the unique sunburst pattern make counterfeiting virtually impossible.

Act Now – Secure Your Future

With this set of 50, you secure not only 1,555 grams of pure silver, but also invest in real value for future generations. The high liquidity allows you to sell individual coins at any time, while the remainder serves as an iron reserve. In times of currency instability and economic turmoil, physical silver is your anchor of stability.

Trust in the experience of Kettner Edelmetalle and secure these sought-after silver coins for your personal inflation hedge and wealth preservation. Because one thing is certain: silver will retain its value in the future as well – as a proven precious metal with a thousand-year-old tradition!
