0.5 g Deutsche Mark 2026 in Fine Gold – Where Reverse Proof Meets Proof

  • Strictly limited: Minted in a mintage of only 500 pieces – significantly scarcer than the other 0.5 g editions of the Deutsche Mark 2026 series.
  • Genuine investment gold: 0.5 g fine gold, whose value is based on the precious metal itself and follows the gold price – tradeable worldwide and resellable at any time.
  • Minting quality: Eagle side in the highest minting quality Proof, value side in Reverse Proof – two finishes on a single coin.
  • Design: The familiar large “1” between two oak branches, based on the mark coin by Josef Bernhart, with a finely feathered eagle with widely spread wings on the reverse.
  • Material and fineness: Pure fine gold with a fineness of 999/1,000, 14.00 mm diameter, reeded edge, securely housed in a coincard.
  • Manufacturer: Exclusive in-house minting by Kettner Edelmetalle from the “Symbolik” series.
  • Country of origin: Germany – issued for the Republic of Liberia with a face value of 25 dollars.

Some coin designs need no explanation. The “1 Deutsche Mark” lay in wallets, piggy banks and on shop counters for half a century – it stood for a hard, stable currency. Today this image returns in gold, in a version of which there are only 500 pieces worldwide. Anyone who sees this as merely another collector's coin is missing the point. Among the small gold coins of the 2026 year of issue, this edition convinces above all through its substance: you are acquiring physical investment gold – minted fine gold whose value is aligned with the gold price.

A design with history: the one, the oak leaves and the eagle

The mark coin came into circulation at the end of 1950, designed by the Munich artist Josef Bernhart. His design remained unchanged until the farewell to the D-Mark. This exact image appears on the obverse: the large digit “1”, flanked by two oak branches with acorns, below it the inscription “DEUTSCHE MARK” and the year of issue 2026. On the reverse, an eagle spreads its wings, worked out down to the individual feather. On the wings, the small face value “25 Dollars” and “Republic of Liberia” are inscribed, and in the lower part of the eagle sits a small coat of arms of Liberia. A beaded circle frames both sides.

This minting thus joins a long German tradition of golden coins, ranging from the Goldmark pieces of the German Empire to the Goldmark of the Bundesbank from 2001. For clarity: this is an in-house minting by Kettner Edelmetalle and not an issue of the Federal Republic of Germany or the Deutsche Bundesbank. The issuing country is the Republic of Liberia, hence the face value in dollars.

Two surfaces, one piece of fine gold

What distinguishes this variant is the combination of both finishes. The obverse is crafted in Reverse Proof: the background is matte, the relief shines mirror-bright, and every leaf vein catches the light. The reverse shows classic Proof quality with a mirrored background and matte design. For this quality, dies and blanks are specially polished and the blanks are placed individually into the press. The result? An appealing contrast that you can see immediately when turning the coin.

Why 0.5 g fine gold is a smart gold investment

Despite the beauty of the design, the substance remains sober and solid. Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has been a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. It has never had a value of zero, as it possesses intrinsic value. Central banks are among the largest holders of gold in the world. Supply is limited – quite unlike fiat money, which can be multiplied at will. It is not without reason that many consider the precious metal an inflation hedge and a reliable crisis protection.

  • Preservation of value: Physical fine gold as a durable tangible asset that retains its properties across generations.
  • Building wealth in small steps: Small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable fortune.
  • High liquidity: Gold can be traded worldwide and converted back into cash without complication when needed.
  • Tax attractive: The purchase is VAT-free, and profits from the sale are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
  • Double scarcity: Not only is the gold itself limited, but so is this minting, as the limitation to 500 pieces is fixed.
Gold has shone for millennia – and will never lose its shine.

In comparison: which Deutsche Mark gold coin suits you?

The best-known gold coin with this design was issued by the Deutsche Bundesbank in 2001 to mark the farewell to the D-Mark, at that time in a mintage of one million pieces. The 2026 edition by Kettner Edelmetalle takes up this design and offers it in gold and silver as well as in various sizes. Among the 0.5 g editions, this variant is the scarcest: the pure Reverse Proof version is limited to 1,000 pieces, the Proof edition to 5,000. Anyone looking for as much gold as possible per euro invested should choose larger units such as the ounce. Anyone wishing to start with a manageable amount or build up their holdings step by step, however, is exactly right with 0.5 g.

This edition is also a strong choice for personal occasions: give genuine investment gold as a gift for a christening, birthday or Christmas. Despite the personal occasion, you are acquiring full-fledged investment gold here – not merely a souvenir, but minted fine gold whose value follows the gold price. Given the very low mintage, it is advisable to act in good time and purchase this piece of German monetary history.
