Tiger in the jungle, snow leopard in the high mountains, panda in the bamboo forest. This set combines Asia's most fascinating wildlife in genuine gold and purest silver. Five small gold coins from Gabon, each in its own illustrated coincard, meet a Silver Panda whose mirror-like shine instantly catches every eye. A set for collectors with a love of nature – and one that makes a wonderful gift.
The Five Gold Coins: Small Format, Great Symbols
Each of the five gold coins contains 1/1,000 ounce (approx. 0.03 g) of fine gold with a fineness of 999/1000 and measures 16 mm in diameter. The obverse sides feature finely engraved animal portraits with the animal's name inscribed. The presentation cards show each animal in its natural habitat, accompanied along the bottom edge by a black band with silhouettes of trees, bamboo and animals.
- Bengal Tiger: India's national animal and the epitome of strength. The portrait shows the predator facing forward, with a piercing gaze.
- Snow Leopard: the elusive "ghost of the mountains" from the Himalayas and Central Asia, depicted on the card against snow-capped peaks.
- Panda: China's world-famous crowd-pleaser, here shown as a friendly head portrait.
- Cobra: raised up with a spread hood – a powerful symbol in India and Southeast Asia for centuries.
- Orangutan: the "man of the forest" from Borneo and Sumatra with its characteristic cheek pads.
The Reverse: The Coat of Arms of the Republic of Gabon
The reverse of all five coins bears the national coat of arms of Gabon: two panthers hold a shield featuring a sailing ship, with a tree growing above it. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE GABONAISE", the indication "999/1000 FINE GOLD" and the face value "1000 FRANCS CFA" reveal origin and fineness at a glance. The numismatic details are also printed on the back of each blister card.
The 2026 Silver Panda – A Night Scene in Proof Quality
The centrepiece of the set is the 1-ounce silver coin Chinese Panda 2026. A giant panda sits facing the viewer, holding bamboo with both paws and chewing on it contentedly. A full moon hovers in the upper right, its craters clearly visible. Delicate bamboo leaves frame the scene, with a meander band running along the edge. "CHINA PANDA" appears at the top, "1 OZ FINE SILVER 9999" at the bottom.
The design only reveals its full effect in Proof quality. Depending on the angle of light, the mirrored background appears deep black, and the frosted fur stands out almost three-dimensionally. The reverse shows a lotus blossom at the centre, surrounded by twelve panda depictions in various poses, along with "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA", the face value of 20 Dollars and the year of issue 2026. With a mintage of just 1,000 pieces, this edition is a true rarity.
Five animals, two precious metals, one continent: this set tells the story of Asia's wilderness – and preserves it in gold and silver for generations to come.
In Comparison: What Makes This Set Special
The China Mint has been minting the classic China Panda since 2016 with 30 g of silver, in the millions. The Silver Panda in this set, by contrast, contains a full troy ounce of 31.1 g at the highest purity level of 999.9. On top of that comes a mintage of just 1,000 pieces. Anyone looking primarily to build up as much precious metal weight as possible is well advised to choose larger bars or classic bullion coins. Anyone who values variety of designs, rarity and collecting enjoyment, however, will find here a combination that exists only once.
The gold coins also have their own appeal: thanks to their miniature format, genuine gold becomes affordable for everyone. Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlived all others. For thousands of years it has been considered a reliable store of value and a safeguard in times of inflation and crises. Silver complements the set as a physical tangible asset with a long coinage tradition.
Who Is This Set Suitable For?
