Martial Eagle and Bateleur
The Odyssey of the Sky of the South African Mint began in 2025 with the Bateleur, followed by the Martial Eagle in 2026. Each coin shows its face value as an R before the number, the symbol of the rand, from R5 on the ounce of silver to R200 on five ounces of gold.
The gold coins are of fine gold 999.9/1,000, the silver coins of one and two ounces of silver 999/1,000.
Besides open grassland, the Martial Eagle also lives in wooded savanna and riverine forest.
