From the rock

Pteranodon means wing without tooth, and it had no teeth.

Most known finds come from the chalk of western Kansas, where a sea lay at the time. Since 2014 it has been the official state flying fossil there.

No human has ever seen this animal alive: the age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, and the human genus has existed for about 2.8 million years.

With the Pteranodon, the Prehistoric series continues its fascinating journey through the history of the Earth – and makes it tangible in pure precious metal. Such gold coins in a miniature format combine a captivating design with the substance that ultimately matters. Because here you hold physical gold in your hand: a 1/200 ounce of fine gold with a purity of 999.9. The value of this coin is based primarily on the fine gold it contains and moves with the gold price – the design is the personal touch, the precious metal is the real reason to buy.

The design: the Pteranodon as ruler of the prehistoric skies

At the center sits the Pteranodon, one of the most famous pterosaurs in Earth's history. With widely outstretched wings, the long, pointed beak, and the unmistakable cranial crest, it appears almost alive. The engravers have worked out every detail: the texture of the skin, the delicate wing membranes, the powerful claws. Behind it stretches a lush prehistoric world of ferns, trees, and rocky outcrops, giving the image depth. All elements emerge as a raised relief from the field, framed by a finely reeded edge. Along the lower arc, the inscription "1/200 OZ FINE GOLD 9999" confirms weight and purity.

Proof minting quality and the finest fine gold

The execution in Proof is the most demanding minting technique of all. Specially polished blanks and dies create that characteristic contrast between deep black mirrored surfaces and silky matted motifs – a visual experience of the highest order, which is particularly impressive on a diameter of only 14.00 mm. Despite the miniature format, every detail remains razor-sharp. The coin is delivered protected in a high-quality designed coin card. As official legal tender of the issuing country Liberia, it carries a face value of 25 dollars, thus combining numismatic character with real precious metal value.

The Prehistoric series by Kettner Edelmetalle

The Pteranodon joins a coveted series dedicated to the giants of prehistory. The designs include, among others, the armored Stegosaurus and the feared Tyrannosaurus Rex – each as a 1/200 ounce coin in 999.9 fine gold and with an equally strict mintage. Those who collect the issues piece by piece not only build up a thematically coherent series, but also a small, growing stock of pure gold. It is precisely this combination of historical theme and genuine precious metal substance that makes the series so appealing.

Physical gold as an investment – substance instead of promises

However small the coin may be: it is fully-fledged investment gold. Gold has proven itself as a stable store of value for around 6,000 years, it has an intrinsic value and has historically never been worth zero. As a scarce, globally recognized precious metal, it can be traded and resold at any time. Small amounts of gold like this 1/200 ounce add up over the years to a considerable fortune – a way to build up physical gold in manageable steps and pass it on through generations.

  • Preservation of value: Gold is considered a proven inflation hedge and preserves purchasing power when confidence in paper money wanes.
  • Durability: As crisis protection, physical precious metal retains its properties for millennia – it shines and endures.
  • Liquidity: Gold is highly liquid and can quickly be converted back into cash worldwide.
  • Tax advantages: Profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.
Gold is humanity's oldest currency – it has outlived every other. Whoever owns pure fine gold holds a value in their hands that requires no signature and no promise.

For lovers of prehistory, the Pteranodon is far more than a mere collector's coin – at its core is recognized investment gold, whose value follows the gold price. This is precisely what makes the coin a powerful gesture on special occasions: for birthdays, christenings, or Christmas, give not a fleeting gift, but genuine, minted fine gold – an asset that endures. Secure your copy of this strictly limited edition while the mintage of 5,000 pieces lasts, and add a piece of Earth's history in pure gold to your holdings. Those who buy gold coins of this kind now are investing in substance with clear potential for value appreciation.
