The bar reads “seit 1850” (since 1850); the house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

The name

The C. stands for Carl.

In 1869, Carl Hafner carries on the sweepings works under his own name: C. Hafner. A reference from his apprenticeship values him for his “loyalty, honesty, love of work and morality”, in the words of his time.

Today, descendants of Carl Hafner run the house in the fifth generation; since 1995, Birgitta Hafner and her cousin Dr. Philipp Reisert have led it together. As its guiding principle, the house names the honourable merchant.

“We have a good name, but it only stays as good as it stands up to external scrutiny.”
Dr. Philipp Reisert, C.Hafner
  • LBMAOn the Good Delivery List of the London Bullion Market Association since 2013, for gold.
  • RJCCertified by the Responsible Jewellery Council to the Code of Practices and Chain of Custody, first in 2016, valid until 7 April 2028.

The assay

If it enters the house,it is tested.

In 1892 the Carl Dieterle assay office joins the house. The assay laboratory works with docimasy, according to C.Hafner the oldest known method of determining the fineness of gold alloys.

Every delivery is analysed. If it is melted down into a bar, that bar is drilled and the drillings are tested for their precious metal content. For the fire assay, a report from 2025 gives two to three days.

The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS as a testing laboratory to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, for determining fine metals in precious metal alloys, and it takes part in international proficiency tests.

The bar

A ch in a crucible.

Next to the lettering C.HAFNER is the mark of the house, a ch in a crucible, within a simple circle. The LBMA describes it as a stylised ch in a round crucible.

  • MarkThe mark: a ch in a crucible

  • “seit 1850”“seit 1850” (since 1850) and “GERMANY”

  • FinenessThe fineness: “999.9”

The CertiCard

Once opened,the card shows it.

If the card is opened, the film turns cloudy, and it can no longer be resealed. Since 2015, C.Hafner has packed its bars itself.

C.Hafner supplies this bar in a CertiCard. According to the house, the authenticity and integrity of the packaging can be checked before opening; the certificate states the serial number and confirms the tested purity.

The sizes

"Gold is the oldest currency in the world – and unlike paper money, it has never had a value of zero."

Why Invest in Gold Right Now?

In times when central banks worldwide are expanding the money supply and inflation is eroding purchasing power, physical gold offers a proven inflation hedge. While fiat currencies come and go, gold has survived every currency crisis in history. Interestingly, the world's largest gold holders are the central banks themselves – a clear signal that even the guardians of paper money do not fully trust their own product.

  1. Tax-free gains after just one year of holding
  2. Crisis-proof medium of exchange with worldwide acceptance
  3. Perfect denomination for flexible wealth allocation
  4. Sustainable through the use of secondary materials

The Ideal Building Block for Your Wealth Protection

With a quarter ounce of gold, you hold the perfect size for gradual wealth accumulation in your hands. Small enough for regular purchases, large enough for substantial wealth preservation. This denomination is ideally suited as crisis protection: in an emergency, you can flexibly access partial amounts without having to break up larger bars.

The compact size also makes this gold bar an ideal gift with lasting value. Whether for a birth, confirmation or as a start towards financial independence – you are giving not just gold, but genuine security for the future.

Your Trust Is Worth Its Weight in Gold

At Kettner Edelmetalle, you receive not only first-class products, but also benefit from decades of expertise in precious metals trading. The 1/4 ounce gold bar C. Hafner combines all the qualities that make a solid investment: the highest purity, international recognition, perfect tradability and the security of a physical store of value that operates independently of banks and digital systems.

Secure your share of gold's timeless value today. Because while paper money gradually loses purchasing power through inflation, gold has preserved its lustre for millennia – and will continue to do so in the future!
