The call
In chorus with the family
koo-koo-koo-koo-koo-kaa-kaa-kaa
In German it is also called Lachender Hans, “laughing Hans”. But what sounds like laughter is a territorial call: it warns other birds to stay away, as the Australian Museum writes.
The family often calls in chorus, above all at dawn and dusk. This is how it tells other kookaburras that its territory is occupied.
In the breeding season other kookaburras help out, usually young birds from the previous one to two years. Everyone in the group shares the rearing, and the parents are believed to pair for life.
At around 42 centimetres and 340 grams on average, it is one of the largest kingfishers. It lives almost everywhere in eastern Australia where suitable trees grow.
The perch
It waits quietly on a perch with a good view, then drops straight down.
Under the loupe
The side with the kookaburra carries the weight, fineness and year, together with the mintmark of the Perth Mint.
On the other side: the effigy of King Charles III by Dan Thorne. The design is by Wade Robinson.

Why This Coin Enriches Your Portfolio
Silver coins of the Kookaburra series enjoy an excellent reputation worldwide. The Perth Mint has been minting this popular series since 1990 – with a new, unique design every year. This makes every edition a collector's piece with character.
"Silver is not just a precious metal – it's a piece of history you can hold in your hands. The Kookaburra embodies this tradition in a truly unique way."
The 10-ounce variant offers a decisive advantage: you get more silver per coin while benefiting from lower minting costs relative to the material value. For strategically minded investors, this is a factor not to be underestimated.
Silver as crisis protection and a Wealth Anchor
In times of economic uncertainty, silver has proven its worth for thousands of years. Unlike paper money, this precious metal has an intrinsic value that exists independently of political decisions or central bank policy. Industrial demand – particularly from the solar industry, electronics and medical technology – additionally ensures stable baseline demand.
Another advantage: profits from the sale of silver are tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. This makes this form of investment particularly attractive for investors with a long-term outlook.
Perfectly Protected for Generations
Your 10 oz Silver Kookaburra 2026 will of course arrive in a high-quality coin capsule. This protects the precious piece from scratches, fingerprints and environmental influences. This way, its Brilliant Uncirculated condition is preserved for years and decades to come – an asset you can confidently pass on to future generations.
