The call

In chorus with the family

koo-koo-koo-koo-koo-kaa-kaa-kaa

In German it is also called Lachender Hans, “laughing Hans”. But what sounds like laughter is a territorial call: it warns other birds to stay away, as the Australian Museum writes.

The family often calls in chorus, above all at dawn and dusk. This is how it tells other kookaburras that its territory is occupied.

In the breeding season other kookaburras help out, usually young birds from the previous one to two years. Everyone in the group shares the rearing, and the parents are believed to pair for life.

At around 42 centimetres and 340 grams on average, it is one of the largest kingfishers. It lives almost everywhere in eastern Australia where suitable trees grow.

The perch

It waits quietly on a perch with a good view, then drops straight down.

Under the loupe

The side with the kookaburra carries the weight, fineness and year, together with the mintmark of the Perth Mint.

On the other side: the effigy of King Charles III by Dan Thorne. The design is by Wade Robinson.

The Silver Kookaburra 2026 is back! And what a comeback it is. The Perth Mint has outdone itself, presenting an edition that makes collectors' hearts beat faster while also delighting investors. With a limited mintage of only 500,000 pieces, this coin ranks among the most sought-after silver coins of the year.

A design that captivates

The obverse of this Brilliant Uncirculated coin features the namesake Kookaburra in a breathtaking depiction. The Australian kingfisher spreads its wings and glides elegantly over a typically Australian landscape with gnarled trees and rocky terrain. The level of detail is remarkable – every single feather has been engraved into the precious metal with the utmost precision. The inscription "KOOKABURRA" along with "2026 1oz 9999 SILVER" and the "P" mint mark for Perth Mint round off this artistic design.

The reverse features the official portrait of King Charles III in the classic side profile. The inscription "CHARLES III AUSTRALIA" along with the face value "1 DOLLAR" give the coin its official status as legal tender in Australia.

Why the Kookaburra 2026 belongs in your portfolio

This coin combines several advantages that make it a smart choice:

  1. Tax advantages: Profits from the sale are generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year
  2. Limited availability: The limited mintage provides potential value stability
  3. Industrial demand: Silver is urgently needed in electronics, solar technology, and medicine
  4. High liquidity: Recognized worldwide and tradeable at any time
  5. Perfect diversification: Low correlation to other asset classes

Silver has outlived every currency in history. It possesses an intrinsic value that endures independently of political decisions or economic turbulence.

Technical perfection from Perth

The Perth Mint is one of the most renowned mints in the world. For over a century, it has stood for the highest quality standards. The Kookaburra 2026 is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition – protected in a high-quality coin capsule that shields the precious piece from scratches and environmental influences.

With a diameter of 40.70 mm, the coin sits comfortably in the hand. The fine weight of exactly 31.10 grams corresponds to a full troy ounce – the international standard for bullion coins. The fineness of 999.9/1,000 guarantees the highest purity.

More than just an investment

The Kookaburra has long since become a cult classic. Since 1990, a new design has been released every year, making the series extremely popular among collectors. But this coin is also excellently suited as a crisis hedge. In times of economic uncertainty or currency instability, physical silver offers tangible value – independent of banks or digital systems.

Whether as a cornerstone of your retirement provisions, a valuable gift for the next generation, or a shining addition to your collection: the 1 oz Silver Kookaburra 2026 is an investment that brings joy. Secure your copy of this extraordinary Australian coin now!
