Heraeus

Silver, poured and stamped.

Silver bar bearing Heraeus, Feinsilber, the emblem and the weight

A family business headquartered in Hanau. Its roots go back to a pharmacy that the family ran from 1660 onwards.

Fine silver

The surface of the casting

The cast silver bars, too, bear Heraeus, Feinsilber 999.9, the emblem and the weight, punched into the surface formed by the flowing metal.

Since 2014, cast bars of one kilogram and above have borne a stamped serial number.

The sizes

Five cast sizes

In true proportion to one another, with dimensions as stated by Heraeus.

  • 250 g

  • 500 g

  • 1 kg

  • 5 kg

  • 15 kg

This bar: 250 g, 69.5 × 33.65 mm

The emblem

The hand with the roses

The emblem, enlarged from the photo of the one-kilogram silver bar.

Heraeus bars bear a round emblem with the legend HERAEUS EDELMETALLE HANAU. A hand grasps the stems of three roses, with an H beside it.

The hand with the roses comes from the Heraeus family coat of arms, of which the emblem shows only a part. The family chronicle suggests that the apothecary Isaac Heraeus chose the motif in memory of his birthplace, Güstrow.

From the unicorn to the flame

  1. 1668

    “Zum weißen Einhorn”

On the market square of Hanau’s New Town, Isaac Heraeus opens his own pharmacy in a half-timbered house and names it “Zum weißen Einhorn”, the White Unicorn.

  2. 1856

    Germany’s first platinum melt

Platinum is much sought after in jewellery making, but until then it can only be forged and pressed when white-hot. After lengthy experiments, Wilhelm Carl Heraeus melts two kilograms of platinum with an oxyhydrogen blowpipe.

    1768 °C

Platinum does not melt until it reaches this temperature.

  3. 1945

    Destruction and a new beginning

Air raids in 1944 and 1945 almost completely destroy the works in Hanau, and on 19 March 1945 the original pharmacy building as well. After the war, Heraeus at first makes cooking pots, hotplates and immersion heaters. Above the entrance of the original building, rebuilt in 1951 and 1952, a bronze unicorn has recalled the pharmacy ever since.

  4. 2025

    365 years

The family celebrates “365 years of Heraeus”. The company still belongs to the family today.

The 250g silver bar from Heraeus offers exactly that: a tangible, enduring value that has accompanied humanity for millennia. Silver has outlasted all currencies – and will continue to do so.

Heraeus – A Name That Stands for Quality

When you hold this solid cast bar in your hands, you immediately feel the quality of German craftsmanship. Heraeus Edelmetalle from Hanau looks back on a history of over 160 years in precious metals processing. The company is one of the world's leading providers and enjoys an excellent reputation among investors and collectors alike.

The obverse of the bar proudly displays the inscription "Heraeus" as well as the purity designation "Feinsilber 999.9". Particularly impressive: the traditional Heraeus logo with the stylised H, surrounded by floral elements and roses – a design from the historic family coat of arms. The inscription "HERAEUS EDELMETALLE" in the upper semicircle and "HANAU" in the lower area complete the classic design.

Why This Silver Bar Is Your Perfect Inflation Hedge

Inflation quietly and steadily erodes your savings. While paper money continuously loses purchasing power, silver retains its intrinsic value. This is not theory – it is history. For centuries, the white precious metal has served as a reliable store of value.

"Silver is the money of gentlemen, gold the money of kings. But he who possesses neither is a slave." – Ancient wisdom

The 250g Heraeus bar combines several decisive advantages:

  1. Substantial weight: With 250 grams, you acquire a significant quantity of physical silver at an attractive premium
  2. Highest purity: The fineness of 999.9/1000 guarantees maximum value density
  3. LBMA certification: Internationally recognised quality standards ensure worldwide tradability
  4. Tax advantages: After a holding period of at least one year, profits from the sale are generally tax-free

The Characteristic Cast Bar Appearance

Unlike minted bars, this cast silver bar has a distinctive appearance. The slightly irregular, elongated-oval shape with rounded corners and edges gives it an authentic, almost archaic character. The silvery-white, metallically gleaming surface displays the typical casting characteristics – making each bar a unique piece.

Heraeus uses exclusively material from verified mines and suppliers. As a member of the London Bullion Market Association, the company commits to the highest ethical standards throughout the entire supply chain.

Crisis Protection and Industrial Demand

Silver is far more than just a precious metal for investors. Industrial demand is continuously rising – particularly in forward-looking sectors such as electronics, solar technology and medical technology. This dual demand from the investment and industrial sectors makes silver a particularly interesting investment product.

The limited availability of the raw material additionally ensures long-term value stability. While central banks can print paper money without limit, silver cannot be multiplied at will. A fundamental difference that makes all the difference in times of crisis.

Who Is This Bar Suited For?

The 250g Heraeus silver bar is aimed at investors who wish to invest substantially in physical precious metals. It offers an excellent ratio between weight and premium. At the same time, it remains manageable enough for secure storage. Whether as a cornerstone for your precious metals collection, for diversifying your portfolio, or as a cross-generational wealth preservation tool – this bar meets the highest standards.
