The cycle

From industry, from jewellery and silverware, silver comes back.

In 2025 a great deal of silver came back from jewellery and silverware, writes the Silver Institute. Within industrial scrap, the amount from catalysts of the chemical industry rose, while the amount from electronic scrap fell.

Overall, recycling rose by 2 per cent, to its highest level in twelve years.

197.6million ounces of silver came from recycling worldwide in 2025, according to the Silver Institute, around 6,100 tonnes

Umicore describes the task of its refinery like this: giving precious metals a new life and putting them back into the cycle.

Electronic scrap and spent catalysts arrive here, as well as by-products of the non-ferrous metals industry and by-products from mining.

The way back

How this becomes pure silver

  1. The sampleEvery material gets its own sampling procedure. The sample and its analysis decide what is credited to the supplier.
  2. The molten bathOxygen-rich air and fuel flow into the molten bath through a submerged lance. Copper, lead and nickel act as collectors, taking up the precious metals.
  3. The separationThen the copper is leached out, and the precious metals remain in a residue. The refinery purifies it further, by classic cupellation and by processes of its own.
  4. Fine silverAt the end there is silver as granules of 99.99 per cent and in large trading bars of 25 kilograms.

Umicore writes that the metal in its bars comes mostly from this recovery, alongside other sources.

The refinery in Hoboken is on the LBMA’s Good Delivery List for gold and silver. Sales of the bars are run by Umicore Precious Metals Management in Hanau.

The bar

Cast, with a struck hallmark

The cast bar bears its maker’s symbol and name, fine silver 999, its weight and a number.

It is smaller at the bottom than at the top: Umicore gives the top surface as approx. 87 × 47 mm and the underside as approx. 80 × 39 mm.

This impressive piece of Belgian craftsmanship combines the highest quality standards with the unshakeable stability of silver – a precious metal that has served as a reliable store of value for thousands of years.

Umicore – A Name That Stands for Trust

The Belgian materials technology group Umicore is one of the world's most renowned manufacturers of precious metal products. The LBMA certification (London Bullion Market Association) guarantees you not only first-class quality but also international tradability. Every single bar undergoes strict quality controls before leaving the factory.

"Silver is the money of gentlemen, gold the money of kings – yet both outlast every paper currency."

Visual Characteristics and Proof of Authenticity

The cast kilogram bar presents itself in its characteristic matte silvery appearance. The rectangular shape with gently rounded corners and edges gives it a pleasant feel. On the front, you will immediately recognize the unmistakable Umicore logo with its spiral-shaped symbol – a mark of authenticity and quality.

Below it, you will find all the relevant details:

  1. The "Umicore" lettering as proof of manufacturer
  2. The designation "FINE SILVER" for material identification
  3. The fineness "999" for 99.9% purity
  4. The exact weight "1000g"
  5. An individual serial number for complete traceability

Why This Particular Bar as an Inflation Hedge?

The one-kilogram denomination has established itself as the ideal size for serious investors. It offers an optimal ratio between premium and material value. While paper money continuously loses purchasing power due to inflation, silver retains its intrinsic value. The white precious metal has served as an inflation hedge for centuries and has withstood every currency crisis in history.

Particularly interesting: profits from the sale of silver are completely tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. An advantage you will hardly find with any other form of investment!

Industrial Demand Drives Value

Contrary to what many assume, silver is far more than just a precious metal for investors. Industrial demand is continuously rising – particularly in forward-looking industries:

  • Photovoltaics and solar technology
  • Electronics and semiconductor industry
  • Medical technology and antibacterial applications
  • Electromobility and battery technology

These diverse applications ensure steadily growing demand alongside a limited supply. A constellation that speaks for long-term value stability.

Your Personal Crisis Protection

In politically and economically turbulent times, physical silver proves to be reliable crisis protection. It is independent of banks, governments, or digital systems. You hold real value in your hands – tangible, enduring, and recognized worldwide.

The 1 kg Umicore silver bar is excellently suited for diversifying your portfolio and as a solid foundation for your long-term retirement planning. Secure this piece of Belgian craftsmanship today and invest in a value that will outlast generations!
