Albrecht Dürer – "The Hare" in the Purest Fine Gold by Valcambi

  • Strictly limited: a worldwide mintage of just 50,000 pieces – a true rarity in miniature format.
  • Growth potential: high value appreciation potential thanks to the limited mintage and the unbroken popularity of Dürer's motifs.
  • Sought-after edition: a coveted collector's coin with a substantial fine gold core.
  • Design: Dürer's world-famous "Young Hare" from 1502, rendered true to detail down to every single whisker.
  • Material & fineness: purest gold with a fineness of 999/1,000 (24 carat), denomination 1/1,000 oz.
  • Manufacturer: struck by the renowned traditional Swiss mint Valcambi.
  • Country of origin: issued by the Republic of Chad with a face value of 3,000 CFA francs.

With this edition, you hold one of the most famous works of art of the German Renaissance permanently in physical gold in your hand. The appeal lies in the combination of art and precious metal: the design is the personal touch, while the fine gold it contains is the substance and the actual core of this investment. Even though the format is tiny, the value of this coin is primarily based on its fine gold content and develops in line with the gold price.

The coin is part of the "Art & Culture" series and thus belongs to those gold coins that combine artistic merit with pure investment gold. The very low mintage underscores its character as a rare collector's coin: where supply is scarce from the outset and demand for Dürer editions remains high, a noticeable value appreciation potential arises. It is precisely this combination of strict limitation and strong collector interest that makes this edition so appealing.

The Design: Dürer's Young Hare of 1502

"The Hare" – also known as "Young Hare" – is one of the most famous watercolors in art history. Albrecht Dürer created the work in 1502; today it is kept at the Albertina in Vienna. The coin transfers this masterpiece with astonishing precision: the sitting hare with upright ears, an alert eye and fine whiskers appears almost lifelike, with its fur suggested through countless tiny hairs and shades of brown. Also characteristic are the monogram "AD" and the year 1502. The fact that this depth of detail is reproduced on a surface measuring only 11 x 15.40 mm is a testament to Valcambi's minting craftsmanship.

The reverse shows the young hare as the main design. The obverse bears the national coat of arms of the Republic of Chad, flanked by a ram and a lion, along with the inscriptions "RÉPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD", the face value "3000 FRANCS CFA" and the fineness indication "999/1000 FINE GOLD".

Why This Fine Gold Edition Is Worthwhile

Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has served people as a trusted store of value for over 6,000 years. It possesses an intrinsic, globally recognized value, is tradable at any time, and can be sold on again without complication. Anyone looking to build wealth in small steps will find a convenient entry point in such miniature coins – many small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable holding. Another advantage: profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free for private individuals in Germany if the holding period is at least one year.

Beyond pure collecting interest, physical gold remains a solid building block for wealth protection and is traditionally valued as an inflation hedge and crisis protection. However, the main appeal of this edition lies in its charm as a limited art coin: you are acquiring minted fine gold featuring one of the most beloved motifs in art history – in a mintage of just 50,000 pieces worldwide.

Despite its artistic design, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged investment gold: minted fine gold with a fineness of 999/1,000, whose value is tied to the gold price.

The brand-new, Brilliant Uncirculated coin is securely delivered on a blister card, which clearly displays the numismatic details. This way, the small work of art in fine gold reaches you safely protected – and with it, a piece of Dürer, permanently preserved in pure gold.
