Krugerrand · 2026 Issue
The leap that began in 1967.

You are looking at the side with the springbok.
Gold for the hands of ordinary people.
In the late 1960s, around three quarters of the western world’s gold came from South Africa. The Chamber of Mines wanted ordinary people, too, to be able to own gold.
With the Krugerrand, a new kind of coin came into being for this purpose: exactly one ounce of fine gold, with no face value struck on it. Its value was meant to come directly from the gold it contains.
6,012,293
Krugerrand bullion coins were issued in 1978 alone, 187 tonnes of gold in all.
A leap through history
1886
Gold on the Witwatersrand
On the Witwatersrand, the ridge of white water, rich gold deposits are discovered. South Africa’s currency is also named after it: the rand.
1947
The springbok
The sculptor Coert Steynberg draws his springbok in 1946 and 1947. It first appears in 1947 on the 5-shilling coin marking the visit of the British royal family.
1967
The first Krugerrand
On 3 July, commissioned by the South African Reserve Bank and the Chamber of Mines, the South African Mint strikes the first Krugerrand.
1980
Smaller sizes
The half ounce, the quarter ounce and the tenth ounce are added so that smaller sums can also be invested in gold.
2017
Fifty years
For the anniversary, the first silver Krugerrand appears, along with the 1/20 and 1/50 ounce in gold. For these coins, the designers go back to the original wax models and designs.
The motif
The springbok and the president

- The springbok
- South Africa’s national animal in mid-leap. The springbok owes its name to its characteristic leaps. It was designed by the sculptor Coert Steynberg.
- The aloe
- The motif includes an Aloe claviflora, one of South Africa’s best-known aloes. It grows in the dry interior of the country, where the springbok is also at home.
- Fyngoud
- Below the springbok is the fine gold content, framed by FYNGOUD in Afrikaans and FINE GOLD in English. Fyngoud means fine gold.
- Paul Kruger
- The other side shows Paul Kruger in profile. In 1883 he became president of the South African Republic, also known as the Transvaal. The portrait was created by the die engraver Otto Schultz. According to the South African Mint, it goes back to the Kruger half-crown of 1892.
- The name
- Krugerrand combines the name Kruger with the rand, South Africa’s currency.
The alloy
Eleven parts gold, one part copper
The Krugerrand is made of 22-carat gold: eleven twelfths fine gold and one twelfth copper. The copper makes the coin harder and more resistant to scratches. It also gives the coin its warm, reddish sheen.
Every coin contains its full weight in fine gold, and the copper is added on top. That is why the one-ounce coin weighs 33.93 grams and yet contains exactly one ounce of fine gold.
The South African Mint produces the bullion coins together with the Rand Refinery. The refinery in Germiston was founded in 1920 so that South Africa’s gold no longer had to be shipped to London for refining. There, refined gold is cast into strips, rolled and punched into coin blanks.
The same leap since 1967.
Only the year is new.
By its 50th anniversary in 2017, more than 60 million Krugerrands had been sold. The 2026 issue carries this story forward, in your hand and perhaps one day in the hand of someone you pass it on to.
15 coins, each with 31.1 g of fine gold.

What a sight: 15 Brilliant Uncirculated gold Krugerrand coins from the 2026 year of issue, securely stacked in the original Rand Refinery coin tube. This investor package combines a hefty 466.5 grams of fine gold in a single, compact set – delivering exactly what forward-thinking investors are looking for in uncertain times: tangible security you can hold in your hands.
Why exactly 15 Krugerrands? The logic behind the package
Anyone seriously investing in physical gold thinks on a larger scale. Individual coins are a good start – no question. But 15 ounces at once? That's a statement. With a gross weight of 508.91 grams and a diameter of 32.60 mm per coin, you receive a package that can serve both as long-term retirement provision and as an immediately available medium of exchange in times of crisis.
The small denomination in 1-ounce units is no coincidence. It makes the crucial difference. In an emergency – whether economic upheaval, political instability or currency crises – individual coins can be used far more flexibly than a heavy bar. Each individual Krugerrand coin is instantly recognizable worldwide, tradable everywhere and accepted as a means of payment. This is not a theoretical scenario, but lived reality in many parts of the world.
Gold is humanity's oldest currency. It has survived every crisis, every war and every inflation – and it will survive the next one too.
The coin tube: protection for your treasure
This set is delivered in the original coin tube, already supplied by the manufacturer – the Rand Refinery. The lid bears the marking "KR15", which clearly identifies the tube as a container for 15 Krugerrand coins. The light blue cap with the circular viewing window allows a glimpse of the top coin without having to open the tube. Practical, secure and space-saving – this is how you keep your gold protected from scratches and environmental influences.
Crisis protection that fits every budget
Let's be honest: nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. Geopolitical tensions, inflation, banking crises – the list of potential risks is not getting any shorter. That is precisely why more and more people are turning to physical gold as the ultimate protection. And the Krugerrand is the first choice here – not without reason.
- Globally recognized: No other gold piece enjoys such a high level of recognition. Whether in Europe, Asia or America – the springbok opens doors.
- VAT-free: As investment gold, the Krugerrand is exempt from VAT. Every euro flows directly into real gold value.
- Tax-free profits: After a holding period of at least one year, capital gains are generally tax-free – an enormous advantage.
- High liquidity: Gold can be converted into cash anytime, anywhere. Fast, uncomplicated, discreet.
- Travel-friendly: Individual coins can easily be carried in a wallet while traveling without attracting attention – an invaluable advantage in emergency situations, whether at home or abroad.
The Krugerrand compared to other bullion coins
Of course, there are alternatives: the Maple Leaf from Canada, the Vienna Philharmonic or the American Eagle. All have their merits. But the Krugerrand stands out. Its alloy of 916.67/1,000 gold combined with a copper content makes it more robust than, say, the Maple Leaf with its 999.9 fineness. The reddish-golden color, which comes across so wonderfully in the product images, is not just aesthetically appealing – it is a sign of durability. This coin was designed for everyday use, not just for the vault.
Compared to silver coins, gold also offers the advantage of value density: enormous value is concentrated in the smallest of spaces. While you would need an entire suitcase for the same value in silver, 15 gold ounces fit comfortably in one hand.
466.5 grams of fine gold – your personal gold standard
The world's central banks are hoarding gold in record quantities. That should give you pause for thought. Because if even the institutions that print paper money no longer fully trust their own product – why should you? With this package of 15, you create your own personal gold standard. Independent of banks, independent of governments, independent of digital systems.
In over 6,000 years of human history, gold has never had a value of zero. It is the money that has outlasted empires, survived wars and will continue to retain its shine in the future – in the truest sense of the word. This package is more than an investment. It is a statement: I am taking precautions. I am protecting what matters to me.
