Krugerrand · 2026 Issue
The leap that began in 1967.

You are looking at the side with the springbok.
Gold for the hands of ordinary people.
In the late 1960s, around three quarters of the western world’s gold came from South Africa. The Chamber of Mines wanted ordinary people, too, to be able to own gold.
With the Krugerrand, a new kind of coin came into being for this purpose: exactly one ounce of fine gold, with no face value struck on it. Its value was meant to come directly from the gold it contains.
6,012,293
Krugerrand bullion coins were issued in 1978 alone, 187 tonnes of gold in all.
A leap through history
1886
Gold on the Witwatersrand
On the Witwatersrand, the ridge of white water, rich gold deposits are discovered. South Africa’s currency is also named after it: the rand.
1947
The springbok
The sculptor Coert Steynberg draws his springbok in 1946 and 1947. It first appears in 1947 on the 5-shilling coin marking the visit of the British royal family.
1967
The first Krugerrand
On 3 July, commissioned by the South African Reserve Bank and the Chamber of Mines, the South African Mint strikes the first Krugerrand.
1980
Smaller sizes
The half ounce, the quarter ounce and the tenth ounce are added so that smaller sums can also be invested in gold.
2017
Fifty years
For the anniversary, the first silver Krugerrand appears, along with the 1/20 and 1/50 ounce in gold. For these coins, the designers go back to the original wax models and designs.
The motif
The springbok and the president

- The springbok
- South Africa’s national animal in mid-leap. The springbok owes its name to its characteristic leaps. It was designed by the sculptor Coert Steynberg.
- The aloe
- The motif includes an Aloe claviflora, one of South Africa’s best-known aloes. It grows in the dry interior of the country, where the springbok is also at home.
- Fyngoud
- Below the springbok is the fine gold content, framed by FYNGOUD in Afrikaans and FINE GOLD in English. Fyngoud means fine gold.
- Paul Kruger
- The other side shows Paul Kruger in profile. In 1883 he became president of the South African Republic, also known as the Transvaal. The portrait was created by the die engraver Otto Schultz. According to the South African Mint, it goes back to the Kruger half-crown of 1892.
- The name
- Krugerrand combines the name Kruger with the rand, South Africa’s currency.
The alloy
Eleven parts gold, one part copper
The Krugerrand is made of 22-carat gold: eleven twelfths fine gold and one twelfth copper. The copper makes the coin harder and more resistant to scratches. It also gives the coin its warm, reddish sheen.
Every coin contains its full weight in fine gold, and the copper is added on top. That is why the one-ounce coin weighs 33.93 grams and yet contains exactly one ounce of fine gold.
The South African Mint produces the bullion coins together with the Rand Refinery. The refinery in Germiston was founded in 1920 so that South Africa’s gold no longer had to be shipped to London for refining. There, refined gold is cast into strips, rolled and punched into coin blanks.
The same leap since 1967.
Only the year is new.
By its 50th anniversary in 2017, more than 60 million Krugerrands had been sold. The 2026 issue carries this story forward, in your hand and perhaps one day in the hand of someone you pass it on to.
10 coins, each with 31.1 g of fine gold.

Ten ounces of pure trust. Ten coins that have made history. And a coin tube that holds it all securely together. With the 10 x 1 oz Gold Krugerrand 2026, you're not simply acquiring a precious metals package – you're securing a piece of financial history that has captivated investors around the world for nearly six decades.
Why this crisis protection package in particular?
In times when fiat currencies are multiplied at will by central banks and the purchasing power of money is steadily eroding, an anchor is needed. A rock in the storm. Gold is exactly that – for over 6,000 years. No other means of payment has outlasted so many empires, wars and economic crises. And no other precious metal enjoys such universal acceptance worldwide as a medium of exchange.
This investor package with ten Brilliant Uncirculated Krugerrand coins from the 2026 year of issue combines several advantages that make it the ideal building block for your personal protection:
- Immediate liquidity: The Krugerrand is known worldwide and traded everywhere – whether at home or far abroad.
- Tax-free profits: With a holding period of at least one year, capital gains are generally tax-free. Gold is also exempt from VAT.
- Flexible medium of exchange: Individual ounces can be sold separately if needed, or used as a medium of exchange in emergency situations.
- Protection against loss of purchasing power: While paper money loses value, gold has never – truly never – had a value of zero.
311 grams of fine gold – tangible security
The total fine weight of this package is an impressive 311 grams of pure gold. Each individual coin weighs around 33.93 grams gross – the slightly higher value compared to the fine weight is explained by the deliberately added copper content. It is precisely this content that gives the Krugerrand its distinctive, warmly shimmering reddish-gold surface. Anyone who has ever held a Krugerrand in their hand will never forget the sight.
With a diameter of 32.60 mm, each coin sits perfectly in the hand. And yet: ten of these coins can easily be carried in a wallet or small bag while travelling, without attracting attention. This is exactly what makes small denominations in gold and silver so valuable for various emergency situations.
The coin tube – protection for your treasure
The ten Krugerrand coins are delivered in the original Rand Refinery coin tube. The pink lid bears the embossed marking "KR10" – a clear indication of its contents. The tube reliably protects your coins from scratches, fingerprints and environmental influences. This keeps the Krugerrand coins in their Brilliant Uncirculated condition – a detail that can certainly matter when it comes to a later sale.
"Gold is money. Everything else is credit." – J.P. Morgan, 1912. A statement that has lost none of its validity even more than a hundred years later.
The Krugerrand – a legend since 1967
There are coins, and then there is the Krugerrand. When the Rand Refinery minted the first issue in 1967, the goal was clear: to make South African gold accessible to private investors worldwide. The mission has succeeded beyond measure. Today, the Krugerrand is the best-selling bullion coin in the world – a title it has earned over decades.
The obverse shows the striking profile portrait of Paul Kruger, flanked by the inscriptions "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA". The reverse features the leaping Springbok in the South African savannah – a design of timeless elegance. Below it is the inscription "FYNGOUD 1 OZ FINE GOLD" and the year of issue 2026.
Who is this package suitable for?
This investor package is aimed at everyone who is serious about their financial protection. Whether as long-term retirement provision, as a transfer of wealth to the next generation, or as tangible protection against political and economic crises – ten ounces of gold in the world's most renowned bullion coin make a statement. A statement that says: I don't blindly trust paper money. I rely on real assets.
Compared to gold bars, coins such as the Krugerrand offer a decisive advantage: they can be divided into small denominations, are instantly recognisable worldwide, and are unbeatably flexible as a medium of exchange in times of currency instability. While a 10-ounce bar can only be sold as a whole, ten individual coins give you full control over your liquidity.
