Lucky ladybird 2026 in gold, design side with the lucky ladybird on a four-leaf clover

On New Year cards around 1900, the wish was already in the picture: four-leaf clovers, ladybirds, horseshoes. These are the signs our pieces carry in gold and silver. On this coin the lucky ladybird sits on a four-leaf clover.

The lucky ladybird

Seven spots, a lucky number.

In German folk speech the ladybird is called Glückskäfer, the lucky beetle, as the German dictionary Duden records. The Etymological Dictionary of German calls ladybirds the best known and best loved beetles, regarded as a symbol of luck.

The classic lucky charm is the seven-spot ladybird, red with seven black spots. Seven has always been considered a lucky number, writes NABU, the German nature conservation union.

By the way, the spots do not reveal a ladybird’s age. Their number stays the same throughout its life of at most one year.

A seven-spot ladybird eats 100 to 150 aphids a day, its larva 400 to 600 before it pupates.

“As a lucky charm, the seven-spot ladybird … enjoys great popularity.”
NABU, Naturschutzbund Deutschland

On this coin it sits on a four-leaf clover.

The four-leaf clover

Four leaves, where three usually grow.

Clover normally has three leaflets, four only in very rare cases. The Botanic Gardens of the University of Bonn call the four-leaf clover a rare exception.

The disposition lies in the genes, as a plant breeder at the University of Georgia found. Whether the fourth leaf actually grows also depends on light and temperature.

The German dictionary Duden calls it Glücksklee: clover with an exceptionally four-part leaf, regarded as a lucky charm. The dictionary of the Brothers Grimm also lists the four-leaf clover as a Glücksblatt, a leaf of luck.

The lucky clover sold in pots, by the way, is a wood sorrel from southern Mexico that naturally has four leaves. It came to Europe in the 19th century.

“A four-leaf clover is a rarity. Lucky is the person who happens to find one.”
Museum der Kulturen, Basel

The design

The sign, struck in metal.

The edge of the design side reads “1/200 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD”.

On the value side a rose climbs with small beetles, and the edge reads “REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA”, “25 DOLLARS” and the year 2026.

Luck to give

A wish you keep.

At the turn of the year people give lucky charms. The New Year lucky charms we know today came about in the 19th century.

Many people do not want to throw their lucky charms away or pass them on, for fear the luck might go with them.

Whether lucky charms really bring luck may be left open, writes the Volkskundemuseum Wien. And it names what they are meant to say:

“Whoever gives a lucky charm wants to say: I care about you.”
Volkskundemuseum Wien

A gift for a birth or the new year, for instance: the coin comes in a Coincard.

Gold does not corrode and does not dull. So the wish stays as it was struck.

1/200 oz Gold Lucky Ladybug 2026 – Minted Fine Gold in Proof Quality

  • Design: A sculpturally detailed ladybug sits enthroned at the center of a four-leaf clover – two centuries-old symbols of luck, finely chiselled and artfully brought to life with widely spread wings.
  • Material / Fineness: Struck from the purest gold with a fineness of 999.9/1,000 – it hardly gets purer than this, investment quality in its noblest form.
  • Minting quality: Produced in the highest possible finish, Proof (PP) – mirror-like fields, raised design elements, razor-sharp contours.
  • Limitation: Strictly limited to a worldwide mintage of 5,000 pieces – a modest minting figure that ensures pronounced scarcity.
  • Investment character: Physical fine gold in a small denomination, whose value is primarily determined by its precious metal content and the gold price.
  • Manufacturer: Issued by Kettner Edelmetalle, one of Germany's largest precious metals dealers.
  • Country of origin: Official legal tender of the Republic of Liberia with a face value of 25 Dollars, year of issue 2026.

There are gold coins that people buy for their design – and others where the substance is decisive. The 1/200 oz Gold Lucky Ladybug 2026 combines both, yet the real reason to buy lies in the metal itself: here you hold tangible, physical fine gold whose value is measured by the gold price. The lovingly designed motif is the personal touch, but the fine gold (999.9/1,000) is the basis of value.

A Design Full of Symbolic Power: Ladybug Meets Clover

The obverse shows a richly detailed ladybug struck with outspread wings, sitting on a lush four-leaf clover – powerfully modelled and, thanks to the Proof finish, raised sculpturally from the mirrored background. The edge inscription "1/200 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD" states the weight and fineness directly on the coin. The reverse bears the inscription "REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA · 25 DOLLARS · 2026", complemented by delicate rose vines, additional ladybugs, and the national coat of arms of Liberia. The small gold coin is delivered encapsulated in a transparent capsule, set into an elegant, dark green coin card with a golden ornamental frame and the lettering "Glückskäfer" (Lucky Ladybug).

A True Rarity: Only 5,000 Pieces Worldwide

Let's talk numbers. Popular investment classics such as the Krugerrand or the Vienna Philharmonic leave the mints year after year in mintages of millions. The Lucky Ladybug, by contrast, is a rarity with a mintage of just 5,000 pieces – a completely different league altogether. Such a low minting figure creates scarcity, and scarcity has always been a driver of demand. Concrete price promises would be irresponsible, but experience shows: strictly limited gold issues in Proof quality are in demand. This is precisely where the potential for value appreciation of this issue lies.

"Gold is God's money" – humanity's oldest currency has outlasted all others and, in over 6,000 years, has never had a value of zero.

Small Investment Gold with a Big Impact

Small denominations in particular make it easy to get started with physical gold investment, allowing you to build up a considerable fortune step by step. So don't think of the Lucky Ladybug merely as a collector's coin, but as a solid gold investment. These advantages speak for themselves:

  • Value preservation: For thousands of years, gold has been regarded as a proven store of value, protecting against the gradual erosion of purchasing power.
  • Building wealth in small steps: Even small amounts of gold add up over the years – ideal for the systematic build-up of physical reserves.
  • Tradable at any time: Gold is recognized worldwide, highly liquid, and can be resold without complication.
  • Protection: As an inflation hedge and reliable crisis protection, physical gold retains its intrinsic value when confidence in paper money wavers.

The Lucky Ladybug also makes a fine gift: for birthdays, weddings, or christenings, you're not giving an empty gesture here, but real investment gold – an asset that lasts. Profits from the sale of physical gold are also generally tax-free after a minimum holding period of one year. In just 14 millimetres, this issue combines the best of both worlds: a charming design and the enduring substance of pure fine gold. Secure your piece while the small mintage lasts.
