Each animal in its landscape

Since 2024 Prehistoric Life II has continued the series of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, each animal in its landscape.

On the silver coins a timeline of the geological periods runs around the rim, and the obverse bears the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

0.5 Gram Fine Gold from Prehistoric Times: Plateosaurus 2026 – Worldwide Mintage of Only 2,000 Pieces

  • Strictly limited: worldwide mintage of only 2,000 pieces – this gold edition is the smallest and scarcest variant of the year.
  • Minting quality: the highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP) – mirror-smooth coin surface, frosted design elements, struck with polished dies.
  • Growth potential: high value appreciation potential due to the sharp limitation and the consistently strong demand for the Dinosaur series since 2020.
  • Rarity: as a rarity in miniature format, the 7th issue of the Prehistoric Life II series is already thinly distributed from the moment of release.
  • Design: a Plateosaurus strides through a Triassic riverbank, water splashing, while fellow creatures move through the coniferous forest in the background – accompanied by the inscription "PLATEOSAURUS", "217-201 MIO YEARS BC" and the year of issue 2026.
  • Material and fineness: 0.5 g fine gold with a fineness of 999.9, i.e. 99.99% pure precious metal without alloy additives – gross weight and fine weight are identical.
  • Manufacturer: produced by Emporium Hamburg (Germany), the publisher of the entire Prehistoric Life series.
  • Issuing country: Democratic Republic of the Congo, official legal tender with a face value of 100 Francs.
  • Format and delivery: 11.00 mm diameter, reeded edge, delivered protected in a coin capsule.

A dinosaur on eleven millimeters – and underneath it, gold of the highest purity. This collector's coin from the Congo brings 0.5 grams of fine gold into a minting that is best viewed under raking light. However, the substance remains decisive: you are acquiring physical investment gold, whose value is based on the gold price. The design is the personal touch, while the fine gold is the actual reason for purchase.

The "Swabian Lindwurm" as a Gold Design

The Plateosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur of the late Triassic period. Small head, long neck, powerful hind legs, a balancing tail – an early representative of the long-necked dinosaurs. Fossils were found mainly in Europe, particularly numerous in southern Germany; the first find dates back to 1834 near Nuremberg. Due to the frequency of finds, the animal still carries the nickname "Swabian Lindwurm" (Swabian dragon) to this day. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a leopard's head, spear and the motto "JUSTICE – PAIX – TRAVAIL", below which are the details 0.5 g Au 999.9 and 100 FRANCS.

Prehistoric Life II Series: Congo, Francs, Fine Gold

The prehistoric series from the Congo has been issued since 2020; Prehistoric Life II continues it since 2024. Each year three designs are added, with each animal featuring a silver edition, a color variant and a 0.5-gram gold coin. The Plateosaurus follows, among others, the Velociraptor – and adopts the proven edge strip with a timeline. Those who have followed the series from the beginning know the principle: with only 2,000 pieces, the gold editions are considerably scarcer than the silver variants.

Why 0.5 g of Fine Gold Represents a True Gold Investment

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlasted all others. For over 6,000 years it has served as a store of value because it possesses intrinsic value, is recognized worldwide, and cannot be arbitrarily multiplied – unlike fiat money, which central banks print and control. The fact that central banks in particular are the world's largest gold holders speaks volumes. Small denominations like this one are therefore excellently suited for building wealth in manageable steps:

  • Value preservation: physical fine gold 999.9, tradable and liquid worldwide at any time.
  • Wealth building in stages: many small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable holding.
  • Tax advantage: profits from the sale of gold are generally tax-free if the holding period was at least one year.
  • Passing on wealth: durable, divisible, easy to transport – suitable for passing on value from generation to generation.
  • Solid foundation: gold has been regarded for millennia as an inflation hedge and a proven means of crisis protection.

Compared to Larger Gold Coins

Large classics such as the Krugerrand or Maple Leaf offer cheaper access to the metal per gram – but require a higher capital outlay. This small gold minting reverses the ratio: low entry amount, fine denomination, plus a strictly limited mintage that doesn't exist among common gold coins with mintage figures in the millions. When reselling, the gold value counts first and foremost; the low mintage and the Proof quality can additionally generate extra interest.

Despite the special design, what you are acquiring here is full-fledged investment gold: minted fine gold 999.9, whose value is based on the gold price – and which remains an investment for any occasion, not a mere souvenir.

Whether as an entry point into physical gold investment, as a building block of a growing gold holding, or as a genuine gold investment to give as a gift for a birthday or christening: this 0.5-gram minting combines the finest precious metal with a mintage figure that ends in four digits. Gold has shone for millennia – and will not lose this shine in the future either.
