The constellation in the sky

SUHUR-MASH-HA, the goat-fish.

That is what the Sumerians called the constellation. In Capricornus lies the globular cluster M30, visible with binoculars, best in October.

Details of the coin’s product image

The path of the sun

Twelve sections of a year.

Capricorn is the tenth of the twelve sections.

Seen from the Earth, the sun travels once around the sky against the stars over the course of a year, along the ecliptic.

The signs divide this path into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees each, counted from the vernal equinox point, the position of the sun at the start of spring. The constellations of the same names differ in size.

Because the Earth’s axis slowly turns like a spinning top, once in about 26,000 years, the vernal equinox point has moved by about 30 degrees since the Greek Hipparchus. Signs and constellations are therefore offset today by about one constellation.

For more than 2,500 years

In cuneiform, in books, on clocks.

  1. BabylonThe cuneiform series MUL.APIN, preserved in copies from the 7th century BC onwards, names 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
  2. PtolemyAround AD 150, Ptolemy gathered more than a thousand stars into 48 constellations in the Almagest. At its core, our system today is his.
  3. Très Riches HeuresIn the book of hours of the Duke of Berry, now in Chantilly, each month’s picture shows the two zodiac signs of the month at the top.
  4. PragueThe astronomical clock has stood on the Old Town Hall since 1410, today with calendar, zodiac and clock.

The finish

Silver, gilded in parts.

Gilded are the outer rim and, depending on the sign, parts of the design such as rock, horns or hair. The rest of the figure stays silver.

On the obverse the sun, 20 DOLLARS, the words Republic of Liberia and the coat of arms are gilded.

Selectively gilded means: only chosen areas of the design carry a thin layer of gold.

Anyone who carries the zodiac sign Capricorn within them knows the virtues that make this sign so distinctive: perseverance, determination, and a discipline that can conquer even the steepest peaks. This is precisely the spirit that the new exclusive collector's coin from the "Zodiac" series captures in shimmering silver – with a mintage of just 250 pieces, making it one of the most coveted collector's items of the 2026 vintage.

A Design That Tells Stories

The obverse depicts a majestically rearing Capricorn, powerfully pushing itself up a rugged rock face with its hooves. The impressive, curved horns, the shaggy mane, and the rocky terrain have been artfully partially gilded – a fascinating contrast to the deep black starry sky and the subtly gold-accented star points. Below, the astrological symbol ♑ is displayed on a small silver cartouche. The surrounding inscription lends the coin an almost philosophical depth.

"The stars show the way, but fate lies in your hands." – a motto that elevates this coin far beyond a mere collector's item.

The Reverse – Twelve Signs, Four Elements, One Universe

The reverse unfolds a finely engraved panorama: clouds, waves, flames, and mountains symbolize the four elements. At the center, sun and moon unite in golden finish. Surrounding them, the zodiac wheel with all twelve signs encircles the design, framed by the inscription "TWELVE SIGNS – FOUR ELEMENTS – ONE UNIVERSE". The gold-toned face value "20 Dollars" along with "Republic of Liberia" and "9999 Fine Silver 2026" complete the design.

Why This Coin Deserves a Place in Every Collection

The combination of Proof quality, exquisite partial gilding, and a very low mintage of only 250 pieces makes this edition a true trophy. Zodiac series have been among the most popular themes among numismatists for decades – they appeal not only to collectors but also to individuals who share the corresponding sign or feel a personal connection to it. A gift for those born under Capricorn that shines like few others, whether under the Christmas tree or on a birthday.

Silver – The Eternal Metal of Collectors

Silver has accompanied humanity for millennia as a coinage metal, a means of payment, and a symbol of wealth. For collectors, silver holds particular appeal: it is more affordable than gold, offers generous surface area for detailed designs, and possesses intrinsic value from industrial applications in electronics, solar, and medical technology. What's more: profits from the sale of physical silver coins are generally tax-free after a one-year holding period – a pleasant side benefit for anyone who owns a beautiful silver coin.

While classic bullion coins are often issued in large quantities, this series deliberately focuses on exclusivity. Comparing the Capricorn edition to common 1-ounce designs such as the Maple Leaf or Krugerrand quickly reveals the difference: instead of mintages in the millions, there are only 250 pieces here – an argument that catches the attention of passionate numismatists.

Secure Your Piece – Before Someone Else Does

With such a strict mintage limit, the golden rule of collecting applies: those who hesitate will miss out. The "1 oz Silver Zodiac Capricorn 2026" is not just an aesthetic work of art, but a genuine piece of collector's history – packaged in a protective coin capsule and shipped directly from Kettner Edelmetalle.
