Umicore Gold, 250 g
Gold is never lost,it stays.

The cycle
Gold is practically indestructible.
Around 222,600 tonnes of gold had been mined by mid-2026, the World Gold Council estimates.
Put together, it would make a cube with sides of around 22.6 metres.
The refinery
In Hoboken near Antwerp, on the Scheldt
- tonnes a year
- more than400,000

- more than200
- metals recovered

Umicore describes the task of its refinery like this: giving precious metals a new life and putting them back into the cycle.
Electronic scrap and spent catalysts arrive here, as well as by-products of the non-ferrous metals industry and by-products from mining.
The way back
How this becomes pure gold
- The sampleEvery material gets its own sampling procedure. The sample and its analysis decide what is credited to the supplier.
- The molten bathOxygen-rich air and fuel flow into the molten bath through a submerged lance. Copper, lead and nickel act as collectors, taking up the precious metals.
- The separationThen the copper is leached out, and the precious metals remain in a residue. The refinery purifies it further, by classic cupellation and by processes of its own.
- Fine goldAt the end there is gold as granules of 99.99 per cent and in large trading bars of 12.5 kilograms.
Umicore writes that the metal in its bars comes mostly from this recovery, alongside other sources.
The refinery in Hoboken is on the LBMA’s Good Delivery List for gold and silver. Sales of the bars are run by Umicore Precious Metals Management in Hanau.

✔ Gussbaren
✔ Warum in Goldbarren investieren?
