A couple asleep in the hay, the shoes and a sickle in front, as a relief in gold. The original is at home in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris.

The original

At home in the Musée d’Orsay.

Van Gogh painted the picture in Saint-Rémy, after a wood engraving by Jacques-Adrien Lavieille that reproduces a drawing by Jean-François Millet.

He saw such pictures as a translation, as he wrote to his brother Theo: into another language, that of colours.

Gold Vincent van Gogh "Siesta" – minted fine gold in a small format

A masterpiece of art history, transferred into pure fine gold: The Gold Vincent van Gogh "Siesta" coin combines a world-famous design with the substance that truly matters when buying – physical gold. However small the minting may be, its value is based first and foremost on the precious metal it contains and moves in line with the gold price. The van Gogh design is the personal touch, the fine gold is the real reason to buy.

  • Design: Van Gogh's "Siesta" ("Noon – Rest from Work") depicts two farmers resting during their midday break in a wheat field – a calm, warm scene whose brushwork has been finely translated into the golden relief. In the upper left, the inscription "Vincent van Gogh" accents the image field.
  • Material / Fineness: minted from 999/1,000 fine gold (24 carat), with a fine weight of 0.031 g or 1/1,000 oz – pure, unadulterated investment gold.
  • Manufacturer: produced by Valcambi, one of Switzerland's most renowned mints.
  • Country of issue & face value: Republic of Chad, 3000 CFA Francs, legal tender.
  • Format & mintage: rectangular shape (11 × 15.4 mm), year of issue 2024, strictly limited to 50,000 pieces, delivered Brilliant Uncirculated in a blister card with a printed certificate of authenticity.

Anyone who holds this small gold coin from the gold coins range in their hand is holding tangible wealth in its purest form. The rectangular format sets the "Siesta" apart like a miniature painting – while also making entry into physical gold investment affordable.

Design and detailing

The reverse is entirely dedicated to the painting: the resting farming couple, their discarded wooden shoes, the hat, and in the background golden-yellow wheat fields with a cart on the horizon. Van Gogh's typical, lively style of forms remains remarkably present despite the small format. The obverse bears the coat of arms of the Republic of Chad, flanked by the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD", the face value "3000 FRANCS CFA", and the designation "999/1000 FINE GOLD". This means the fineness is documented directly on the minting.

Within the "Art & Culture" series, the "Siesta" takes its place alongside other designs inspired by great painters. Those who combine several editions build up their fine gold step by step in manageable increments – small amounts of gold add up over the years to a substantial asset.

Investment gold with a personal touch

This minting is excellently suited as a genuine gold investment to give as a gift – for example for a birthday, wedding, or christening. What is given is not a fleeting present, but an asset made of pure gold, whose value is based on the world market. Especially as an entry point into physical gold investment, the small 1/1,000 oz format is a well-considered first step.

Gold is humanity's oldest currency – a proven store of value for over 6,000 years that has never once been worth zero.

Physical gold is convincing thanks to properties that have made it a reliable store of value for millennia:

  • Value preservation: Gold possesses an inherent, intrinsic value and protects against the gradual loss of purchasing power – a classic inflation hedge.
  • Crisis resilience: In uncertain times, gold is a proven crisis hedge, independent of confidence in paper currencies.
  • Liquidity: Gold is recognized worldwide, tradable at any time, and can easily be converted back into cash.
  • Durability: The precious metal permanently retains its physical properties and can be passed down through generations.

One tax aspect is of interest to investors: profits from the sale of physical gold in Germany are generally tax-free provided the holding period is at least one year. It is not without reason that central banks worldwide hold enormous gold reserves – a clear signal of the significance this precious metal holds in safeguarding the financial system.

With the Gold Vincent van Gogh "Siesta" coin, you therefore acquire far more than a beautiful design: full-value investment gold from Valcambi, strictly limited, Brilliant Uncirculated, and in the purest fine gold – a small, shining building block for your long-term wealth accumulation.
