Krugerrand · 2025 Issue

The leap that began in 1967.

Side with the springbok in mid-leap, KRUGERRAND above it and the year 2025 to the left and rightSide with the portrait of Paul Kruger and the legend SUID-AFRIKA SOUTH AFRICA

You are looking at the side with the springbok.

Gold for the hands of ordinary people.

In the late 1960s, around three quarters of the western world’s gold came from South Africa. The Chamber of Mines wanted ordinary people, too, to be able to own gold.

With the Krugerrand, a new kind of coin came into being for this purpose: exactly one ounce of fine gold, with no face value struck on it. Its value was meant to come directly from the gold it contains.

6,012,293

Krugerrand bullion coins were issued in 1978 alone, 187 tonnes of gold in all.

A leap through history

  1. 1886

    Gold on the Witwatersrand

On the Witwatersrand, the ridge of white water, rich gold deposits are discovered. South Africa’s currency is also named after it: the rand.

  2. 1947

    The springbok

The sculptor Coert Steynberg draws his springbok in 1946 and 1947. It first appears in 1947 on the 5-shilling coin marking the visit of the British royal family.

  3. 1967

    The first Krugerrand

On 3 July, commissioned by the South African Reserve Bank and the Chamber of Mines, the South African Mint strikes the first Krugerrand.

  4. 1980

    Smaller sizes

The half ounce, the quarter ounce and the tenth ounce are added so that smaller sums can also be invested in gold.

  5. 2017

    Fifty years

For the anniversary, the first silver Krugerrand appears, along with the 1/20 and 1/50 ounce in gold. For these coins, the designers go back to the original wax models and designs.

The motif

The springbok and the president

The springbok
South Africa’s national animal in mid-leap. The springbok owes its name to its characteristic leaps. It was designed by the sculptor Coert Steynberg.
The aloe
The motif includes an Aloe claviflora, one of South Africa’s best-known aloes. It grows in the dry interior of the country, where the springbok is also at home.
Fynsilwer
Below the springbok is the weight in fine silver, framed by FYNSILWER in Afrikaans and FINE SILVER in English. Fynsilwer means fine silver.
Paul Kruger
The other side shows Paul Kruger in profile. In 1883 he became president of the South African Republic, also known as the Transvaal. The portrait was created by the die engraver Otto Schultz. According to the South African Mint, it goes back to the Kruger half-crown of 1892.
The name
Krugerrand combines the name Kruger with the rand, South Africa’s currency.

The silver

Fine silver with a face value

The silver Krugerrand is struck in fine silver, with a fineness of 999 parts per thousand. Unlike the gold coin, it bears a face value in rand: R1 on the one-ounce coin, R2 and R5 on the larger coins.

Proof

Placed by hand

The proof finish has accompanied the Krugerrand since the very first year of issue: in 1967, 10,000 gold Krugerrands were made in this quality.

For the 2017 anniversary, the South African Mint described its process as follows: the coins are placed by hand and struck several times at lower pressure, so that every detail is transferred flawlessly.

Each coin is then packed by hand and protected in a capsule, so that it stays just as it left the press.

The same leap since 1967.

This issue too.

By its 50th anniversary in 2017, more than 60 million Krugerrands had been sold. The 2025 issue is part of this story, and the story goes on, in your hand and perhaps one day in the hand of someone you pass it on to.

This extraordinary rarity combines the tradition of one of the most famous bullion coins in the world with exclusive collector quality.

Extremely limited mintage guarantees rarity value

With a mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide, this coin is among the rarest silver coins of 2025. The strict limitation makes it a sought-after collector's item. Experienced collectors know: the lower the mintage, the higher the potential for future value appreciation. This coin is not only an investment in physical silver, but above all in numismatic rarity.

"The Krugerrand is more than a coin - it is a piece of history that endures through generations while continuously gaining in value."

Masterful minting artistry in impressive dimensions

With an imposing diameter of 65 millimeters, the richly detailed design unfolds in full splendor. The striking portrait of Paul Kruger, who served as President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1902, is shown in Proof quality with a mirror-finish background and frosted relief. Every fold of his characteristic beard, every line of his face has been immortalized with the utmost precision.

The reverse is adorned with South Africa's national animal - the springbok in full motion. This dynamic depiction symbolizes strength, elegance, and the untamed nature of Africa. In the polished finish, the animal appears almost alive.

Why this coin is a must-have for collectors

  1. First edition in this size and minting quality
  2. Very low mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide
  3. Perfect addition to any Krugerrand collection
  4. High-quality case for optimal protection and presentation
  5. Certified quality from the South African Mint

Silver as a timeless store of value

This exclusive collector's coin consists of 155.52 grams of pure silver with a fineness of 999/1,000. Silver has proven itself as a stable store of value over centuries. Industrial demand, particularly in electronics and solar technology, is continuously increasing. At the same time, natural reserves are limited. These factors, combined with the extreme limitation of this edition, create ideal conditions for long-term value stability and appreciation potential.

Particularly attractive: profits from the sale of physical silver are tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. Another advantage over many other forms of investment.

A legacy for generations

The Krugerrand bears its name in honor of Paul Kruger and the South African currency Rand. Since 1967, this coin series has become the most successful bullion coin in the world. With this limited 5-ounce edition in Proof quality, the mint is writing a new chapter in this success story.

The combination of historical significance, masterful minting artistry, and extreme rarity makes this coin a true treasure for every collector. With only 500 pieces worldwide, it is one of the most exclusive editions of 2025. Secure your copy of this extraordinary rarity now - before it's too late!
