The new special edition of the Silver Krugerrand with the privy mark of the Burgers Pond is an extraordinary tribute to the origins of South African gold coins and unites two icons of numismatic history. This world premiere combines the globally celebrated Krugerrand with a distinctive detail: the privy mark of the Burgers Pond – the "original form" of the Krugerrand. This unique edition is available exclusively at Kettner Edelmetalle!

The Burgers Pond – The Original Form of the World-Famous Krugerrand

The Burgers Pond from the former Transvaal Republic marks the first attempt to cast South African gold into its own currency, thereby laying the foundation for what would later become known worldwide as the Krugerrand. The coin, minted in 1874, is closely tied to the history and identity of South Africa, as it was the first coin made from the country's rich gold deposits. This makes the Burgers Pond a direct predecessor of the Krugerrand, which was introduced in 1967 as a symbol of South Africa's gold market.

The obverse of the Burgers Pond features the portrait of Thomas Francois Burgers, the fourth President of the Transvaal Republic, while the reverse shows the national coat of arms. President Burgers had the visionary plan to create a national coin from the gold of his homeland – a bold step that laid the foundation for the later success story of the Krugerrand. Yet while the Burgers Pond went down in history as the first South African gold coin, its journey was anything but easy.

In 1873, Burgers, without consulting his own parliament, sent 300 ounces of gold to London to have coins minted modeled on the English pound. At the firm of Ralph Heaton and Sons in Birmingham, 837 coins were ultimately minted. However, when Burgers presented these to the Volksraad, the parliament of the Transvaal Republic, the coin was indignantly rejected. It never entered official circulation and its commercial concept failed. Instead, most Burgers Ponds were used as jewelry or keepsakes – many of which were lost or destroyed over time.

Although the Burgers Pond failed in its economic role, it later became a numismatic treasure. With the discovery of the coin's numismatic value in the late 19th century, a passion began for the few remaining specimens that continues to this day. Particularly interesting is that there are two variants of the coin – one with a fine beard and one with a coarse beard in Burgers' portrait.

While the Burgers Pond itself never entered circulation, it marked the beginning of an important tradition of South African gold coins. Its production paved the way for the Krugerrand, which, almost 100 years later and in a very different era, would become a worldwide symbol of the South African gold market. Thus, the Burgers Pond is not only a rare collector's item but also a historical testimony reflecting the origin of the Krugerrand – the first vision of a coin made from the gold of the land once known as Transvaal.

A Unique Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

In commemoration of this heritage, this special edition is strictly limited and impressively combines tradition and modernity. The obverse shows, as usual, the portrait of Paul Kruger, while the distinctive privy mark of the Burgers Pond is subtly integrated. In doing so, this coin not only honors South Africa's history but also the transition from the first South African gold coin to the legendary Krugerrand series - a connection between two numismatic legends!

This collector's coin is not only a highlight for numismatists but also a valuable investment. With a mintage of only 1,500 pieces worldwide, it is an extremely rare rarity. The low number of pieces and the high demand ensure enormous potential for value appreciation. The coin is delivered in an elegant case and is minted in the highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP).

Silver – A Metal with Intrinsic Value

Silver has long been known as a store of value and investment product. Profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free, provided the holding period is at least one year. The high demand in industry, particularly in electronics, solar and medical technology, as well as the limited availability and supply, lead to long-term value stability. Silver serves as a medium of exchange, especially for smaller transactions or in times of currency instability, and has a historical use as a coinage metal, which makes it particularly attractive to collectors.

With the 1 oz Silver Krugerrand Burgers Pond Privy Mark 2024 PP, you acquire not only a piece of history but also an investment in the future. This silver coin is a truly unique collector's item that, due to its very low mintage of only 1,500 pieces worldwide and the highest minting quality "Proof" (PP), offers enormous potential for value appreciation.

Discover the fascination and value of this special coin and secure a piece of numismatic history that impressively combines tradition and modernity.
