Gold Gustav Klimt "Adele Bloch-Bauer" – the Golden Adele as tangible investment gold

  • Design: Klimt's world-famous "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" from 1907 – the legendary "Golden Adele" from his golden phase. Byzantine-inspired ornaments, spirals, stylised eyes and geometric patterns make this work the pinnacle of Viennese Art Nouveau.
  • Material & fineness: Struck from the purest fine gold with a fineness of 999/1,000. The fine weight is 1/1,000 oz, i.e. 0.031 g of pure gold in concentrated form.
  • Manufacturer: Produced by the renowned Swiss mint Valcambi, known for the highest precision and first-class quality.
  • Country of issue & year: Republic of Chad, year of issue 2024, face value 3,000 CFA francs.
  • Mintage & condition: Worldwide limited to 50,000 pieces, Brilliant Uncirculated, delivered on a blister card with an integrated certificate of authenticity.

With this coin, you hold one of the most famous works of art in the world in your hands – and at the same time, full-fledged gold. The real reason to buy is not the image, but the fine gold it contains, whose value is directly tied to the gold price. The design provides the personal touch, but the substance is minted precious metal. Within the gold coins from the "Art & Culture" series, this edition combines artistic beauty with the sober value of the precious metal.

The design: Klimt's Golden Adele

The portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I was created in 1907, when Gustav Klimt was at the zenith of his golden period. Inspired by the gold-shimmering mosaics in Ravenna, he covered the surface with gold leaf and created a flat, almost weightless style – in the same breath as his famous work "The Kiss". Adele Bloch-Bauer, hostess of a Viennese salon, is the only person Klimt portrayed twice.

The eventful history of the original is almost as fascinating as the painting itself: in 2006, it changed hands for a reported 135 million US dollars, and has since ranked among the most expensive works in art history. Today, the "Woman in Gold" can be seen at the Neue Galerie in New York. This gold coin transfers that opulent visual language into a handy, rectangular format.

The obverse shows the coat of arms of Chad with the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD", "3000 FRANCS CFA" and "999/1000 FINE GOLD". The reverse bears the iconic masterpiece along with the inscription "GVSTAV KLIMT" – a modern homage to one of the most important painters of Viennese Modernism.

Why gold is a smart choice

Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has been a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. It has never had a value of zero, possesses intrinsic value, and is recognised worldwide as a means of payment and exchange. As a scarce commodity with limited supply, it protects against loss of purchasing power and serves many investors as an inflation hedge and as crisis protection in uncertain times.

  • Value preservation: a physical tangible asset whose value is tied to the gold price and preserves wealth across generations.
  • Building wealth in small steps: small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable fortune.
  • High liquidity: tradable and resellable worldwide at any time, easily converted into cash.
  • Tax advantage: profits from the sale of gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

This turns a design of timeless beauty into a well thought-out investment product. Despite its artistic character, what you acquire here is a genuine gold investment – minted fine gold that never loses its shine over the millennia. And if you would like to give a genuine investment as a gift, for example for a christening, birthday or wedding, you are not presenting a mere souvenir, but recognised investment gold with lasting substance.
