On New Year cards around 1900, the wish was already in the picture: four-leaf clovers, ladybirds, horseshoes. These are the signs our pieces carry in gold and silver. This coin does not just carry its sign, it takes its shape.

The four-leaf clover

Four leaves, where three usually grow.

Clover normally has three leaflets, four only in very rare cases. The Botanic Gardens of the University of Bonn call the four-leaf clover a rare exception.

The disposition lies in the genes, as a plant breeder at the University of Georgia found. Whether the fourth leaf actually grows also depends on light and temperature.

The German dictionary Duden calls it Glücksklee: clover with an exceptionally four-part leaf, regarded as a lucky charm. The dictionary of the Brothers Grimm also lists the four-leaf clover as a Glücksblatt, a leaf of luck.

The lucky clover sold in pots, by the way, is a wood sorrel from southern Mexico that naturally has four leaves. It came to Europe in the 19th century.

“A four-leaf clover is a rarity. Lucky is the person who happens to find one.”
Museum der Kulturen, Basel

This coin itself takes its shape.

The lucky ladybird

Seven spots, a lucky number.

In German folk speech the ladybird is called Glückskäfer, the lucky beetle, as the German dictionary Duden records. The Etymological Dictionary of German calls ladybirds the best known and best loved beetles, regarded as a symbol of luck.

The classic lucky charm is the seven-spot ladybird, red with seven black spots. Seven has always been considered a lucky number, writes NABU, the German nature conservation union.

By the way, the spots do not reveal a ladybird’s age. Their number stays the same throughout its life of at most one year.

A seven-spot ladybird eats 100 to 150 aphids a day, its larva 400 to 600 before it pupates.

“As a lucky charm, the seven-spot ladybird … enjoys great popularity.”
NABU, Naturschutzbund Deutschland

On this coin a ladybird sits on the clover.

The design

The sign as a shape.

The coin has the shape of a clover, with a ladybird.

Luck to give

A wish you keep.

At the turn of the year people give lucky charms. The New Year lucky charms we know today came about in the 19th century.

Many people do not want to throw their lucky charms away or pass them on, for fear the luck might go with them.

Whether lucky charms really bring luck may be left open, writes the Volkskundemuseum Wien. And it names what they are meant to say:

“Whoever gives a lucky charm wants to say: I care about you.”
Volkskundemuseum Wien

A gift for a birth or the new year, for instance: the coin comes on a blister card.

Good Luck Gold Coin 2024 – a Four-Leaf Clover Made of Pure Fine Gold

  • Manufacturer: minted by Valcambi, one of the most renowned mints in the world, headquartered in Switzerland.
  • Year of Issue & Issuing Country: 2024, issued by the Republic of Chad.
  • Face Value: 3,000 CFA Francs.

Small, shiny, and with an unmistakable message: the Good Luck Gold Coin from the Republic of Chad brings the world's probably best-known lucky symbol to life in solid fine gold. For anyone wanting to enter the world of gold coins or give a genuine investment as a gift, this is a piece that is as charming as it is substantial – crafted from pure gold, whose value is tied to the gold price.

The Design: Double Luck, Minted in Gold

The reverse shows a finely detailed four-leaf clover, with a small ladybird resting on one of its leaves. Both motifs have been regarded for centuries as bringers of luck, protection, and confidence – here artfully combined. The obverse bears the national coat of arms of Chad along with the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD" for the issuing country, "3,000 FRANCS CFA" for the face value, and "999/1000 FINE GOLD" for the fineness. As appealing as the design is, it provides the personal touch – the true substance, however, is and remains the fine gold it contains.

Why Gold? Preserving Value for Millennia

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and a proven store of value for over 6,000 years. It possesses an intrinsic, globally recognized value, has historically never dropped to zero, and is traded across borders. This is precisely why investors value physical gold as an inflation hedge and as a tangible crisis protection in uncertain times. While paper money can be expanded at will by central banks, the supply of gold is naturally limited – a key reason for its long-term stability in value.

  • Preservation of value: protecting wealth from the gradual loss of purchasing power.
  • High liquidity: tradable worldwide and sellable at any time.
  • Building wealth in small steps: even small amounts of gold add up over the years to a considerable fortune.
  • Physical tangible asset: tangible fine gold instead of a mere promise on paper.

A note on the holding period: in Germany, profits from the sale of physical gold are generally tax-free provided at least one year has passed between purchase and sale. This makes gold an excellent choice for long-term protection that can be passed down through generations.

Gold has shone for millennia – and it will not lose its shine in the future either. It is precisely this permanence that makes it the foundation of many fortunes.

Give the Gift of a Gold Investment

For a birth, a christening, a birthday, or as a good wish for a new chapter in life: the Good Luck Gold Coin combines a heartfelt occasion with real counter value. Despite its personal design, you are acquiring full-fledged investment gold here – not a mere souvenir, but minted fine gold from renowned Valcambi production, whose value is measured against the gold price. So you're not just giving a good omen, but a lasting asset.

Who the Good Luck Gold Coin Is Suitable For

The small denomination of 1/1,000 oz makes this gold coin a low-threshold entry point into physical gold investment – ideal for building up a small gold reserve step by step, without committing large sums at once. Those wishing to invest larger amounts can sensibly combine it with common bullion coins or gold bars. With a worldwide mintage of just 50,000 pieces and its extraordinary clover shape, the 2024 edition from the Republic of Chad is a particularly appealing piece of fine gold. Secure your Good Luck Gold Coin and add a piece of genuine investment gold to your holdings.
