The series from Ghana began in 2019 with the woolly mammoth and the giant deer.

The reverse shows the animal in its landscape, and a frieze of animals runs around the rim. The obverse bears the coat of arms of Ghana.

Die Münzserie „Giants of the Ice Age“ oder „Giganten der Eiszeit“ wurde vor vier Jahren begonnen und wird Ende 2022 auch schon wieder vorbei sein. So war es geplant: In einem halbjährlichen Abstand sollten insgesamt acht inzwischen ausgestorbene Wildtiere der vergangenen Kälteepoche in einer streng limitierten Auflage von 1000 Exemplaren mit einem Goldfeingehalt von 999,9/1000 in der hochwertigen Qualität der Polierten Platte geprägt werden. Entsprechend groß war von Beginn an die Nachfrage: Münzsammler und Investoren, aber auch Historiker und Biologen bemühten sich bereits um das Wollmammut sowie andere Urgiganten.

✔ Das Wollmammut machte den Anfang

Die letzte Münzprägung steht noch aus, aber auch sie wird bald von der Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung GmbH herausgebracht werden. Die Scheideanstalt zeichnet sich unter der Ägide der bayerischen Auragentum GmbH für die ghanaische Agenturausgabe verantwortlich. 

Auf noch ein weiteres Tiermotiv können Sie gespannt sein, dann ist von Beginn an auf vier Jahre ausgelegte Sonderserie „Giants of the Ice Age“ wieder beendet. Im Jahr 2019 entschied sich die afrikanische Republik Ghana in Zusammenarbeit mit der Leipziger Edelmetallverarbeitung (LEV) zu einer Prägung von jährlich zwei „Giganten der Eiszeit“ – inzwischen ausgestorbenen, faszinierenden Tieren einer lang zurückliegenden Epoche. 

✔ Spannender Blick in ein beeindruckendes Erdzeitalter 

Sammlermünzen der Republik Ghana werden in der Regel als Agenturausgaben herausgegeben. So wird der African Leopard Ghana von der Scottsdale Mint produziert – für die hochwertige Prägung „Giganten der Urzeit“ zeichnet die LEV verantwortlich. Die insgesamt acht detailreich gestalteten Münzen erscheinen halbjährlich in Gold und Silber. An den Münzrändern sind alle acht Tiere in chronologischer Reihenfolge dargestellt, das jeweils aktuelle Motiv als Vertiefung. 

Die Goldmünzen erscheinen ausschließlich in einer Gewichtseinheit von einer Unze als Polierte Platten in einer limitieren Auflage von weltweit 1.000 Stück. In Silber können Sie Exemplare zu einem Kilogramm aus einer 1.000er-Auflage erwerben oder 1-oz-Münzen, von denen 15.000 Stück geprägt werden. Beide Silberausgaben erscheinen als Stempelglanz. Die Motiv- und Wertseiten entscheiden sich abgesehen von Angaben zu Edelmetall und Gewicht nicht. Bisherige sind die folgenden Ausgaben erschienen:

Auf der Motivseite der 1 oz Goldmünze Auerochse aus dem zweiten Halbjahr 2021 blickt Sie das Urzeittier mit gedrehtem Kopf geradewegs an, zudem erkennen Sie eine Wasserfläche sowie einen entfernten Hügel. Daneben sind der Serienname „Giants of the Age”, AU 999,9 für Edelmetall und Feingehalt, die Gewichtseinheit 1 oz sowie Erscheinungsjahr und Auflage sowie als Besonderheit jede individuelle Münznummer geprägt. 

Die Wertseite ziert das Ausgabeland „Republic of Ghana“ inklusive Landeswappen mit Präsidentenpalast, Goldmine, Kakaobaum, Schwert sowie dem Schriftzug „Freedom and Justice“. Der ebenfalls angegebene Nennwert der ghanaischen Währung von 500 CSDIS entspricht rund 60 Euro (Stand Juli 2022).
