The elephant

The eldest knows the way.

Elephants live in families. A herd usually consists of related females and their young, led by the matriarch, as a rule the oldest and most experienced. She knows where to find food and water. When danger looms, the herd forms a ring, the young in the middle.

In a study published in 2001, researchers used playback experiments to show that the oldest female’s better ability to discriminate can influence the social knowledge of the whole group. Elephants can communicate through deep calls that lie partly below the range of human hearing and carry a long way.

The trunk is nose and upper lip at once. It lifts a log, and just as well a single piece of straw.

0.5 g Gold Somalia Elephant 2026 – African Wildlife in Proof

  • Minting quality: Highest possible finish "Proof" (PP) – deeply mirrored background, finely matted reliefs.
  • Investment objective: Physical bullion coin for lasting value preservation; the small denomination serves as a handy inflation hedge and affordable crisis protection.
  • Design: Two African elephants in the savanna, along with a zebra drinking at a waterhole – the African Wildlife design changes from year to year.
  • Material / fineness: 0.5 g fine gold in premium gold fineness 999.9/1000 (24 carat).
  • Manufacturer: Produced by the renowned mint Bavarian State Mint (Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt).
  • Country of origin: Republic of Somalia, face value 20 Shillings, year of issue 2026.

The Gold Somalia Elephant 2026 is one of the most sought-after small gold coins for entering the world of physical gold. The obverse is dominated by a mighty bull elephant in the vast African savanna, flanked by a second elephant and a zebra drinking at a waterhole. The inscriptions "African Wildlife" and "Elephant" as well as the indication "0.5 g Au 999.9" frame the image. The reverse bears the national emblem of the Somali Republic: two upright leopards holding the coat of arms with the five-pointed star, along with the year of issue and the face value of 20 Shillings.

The coin is minted in Proof quality – the highest numismatic quality level. Despite the delicate diameter of only 11.00 mm, skin folds, tusks and the fine stripes of the zebra are crafted with razor-sharp precision. The mirrored background makes the matted animal motifs stand out in relief. The piece is delivered in Brilliant Uncirculated condition as new merchandise in protective sealed packaging.

African Wildlife – a series with tradition

The "African Wildlife" series is one of the best-known bullion coin series featuring animal designs. The elephant is its classic motif and appears each year in a new design, making every year of issue unique. The series is offered in various sizes – from the delicate 0.5-gram format up to the full troy ounce in gold; the popular African Wildlife design also exists in silver. This 0.5 g edition is the affordable entry point to a design that many investors collect across multiple years of issue over time.

Small amount of gold, genuine investment

The value of this coin is based primarily on the fine gold it contains and moves with the gold price. The design is the personal touch – the substance and the actual reason for purchase is the pure gold. As the oldest currency in the world, gold has been a proven store of value for millennia, possesses intrinsic value, and has never had a price of zero. It is tradable worldwide, can be resold at any time, and is highly liquid – qualities that matter especially in times of inflation and currency risks.

This allows wealth to be built up in small, manageable steps: many 0.5-gram pieces add up over the years to a considerable gold reserve. For anyone wishing to pass on a genuine investment on occasions such as a christening, birthday or Christmas, the Somalia Elephant is a gift of full-fledged investment gold rather than a mere gesture. An important advantage of physical gold investments: profits from the sale of gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

Despite the personal design, you are acquiring full-fledged investment gold here – minted fine gold whose value is based on the gold price.
