The elephant
The eldest knows the way.
Elephants live in families. A herd usually consists of related females and their young, led by the matriarch, as a rule the oldest and most experienced. She knows where to find food and water. When danger looms, the herd forms a ring, the young in the middle.
In a study published in 2001, researchers used playback experiments to show that the oldest female’s better ability to discriminate can influence the social knowledge of the whole group. Elephants can communicate through deep calls that lie partly below the range of human hearing and carry a long way.
The trunk is nose and upper lip at once. It lifts a log, and just as well a single piece of straw.

With its annually changing design, this miniature masterpiece made of purest gold is a genuine collector's item – and at the same time a smart investment in humanity's oldest currency.
A Work of Art on 14 Millimeters
What the Bavarian State Mint has conjured onto a diameter of just 14 mm is simply breathtaking. The obverse shows a vivid African savanna landscape: an elephant stands at a waterhole, its massive tusks and distinctive skin folds rendered with a level of detail that seems almost impossible at this size. In the background on the left stands a second elephant, while in the foreground a zebra drinks. A large celestial body towers over the vast savanna – a composition that breathes pure African wilderness.
The inscription "AFRICAN WILDLIFE" along the upper edge and "ELEPHANT · 1/25 OZ Au 999.9" along the lower edge elegantly frame the design. The mirror-smooth Proof background forms a fascinating contrast to the frosted, raised relief – an interplay of light and shadow that truly brings this tiny coin to life.
The reverse presents the national emblem of the Republic of Somalia, flanked by two leopards and the inscription "SOMALI REPUBLIC". The year of issue 2026 is arranged to the left and right of the emblem, with the face value of 50 shillings below. Here too: flawless minting quality down to the smallest detail.
Why This Coin in Particular?
The Somalia Elephant series has been one of the most popular gold coins on the international market for years. The annually changing elephant design makes every year of issue unique and fuels collector enthusiasm. But the 2026 edition in 1/25 oz goes one step further:
- Proof quality: The Proof finish gives the coin a look that goes far beyond ordinary bullion coins.
- Compact format: With 1.244 grams of fine gold, it is an ideal entry point for investors who want to build up their portfolio gradually with physical gold.
Gold – The Timeless Store of Value
For over 6,000 years, people have trusted gold. Already in ancient Egypt it served as a unit of measurement in trade, and kings and emperors wore it as a symbol of their power. And while countless paper currencies have come and gone, gold has remained constant. It has never had a value of zero. Never.
Gold is not just a precious metal – it is the ultimate promise to the future. While fiat money can be printed, gold remains a scarce asset with limited supply. That is precisely what gives it its value.
It is not without reason that the central banks of the world hoard enormous gold reserves. What does it say about trust in one's own paper money when even its issuers prefer to rely on gold? The answer is obvious.
Convincing Tax Advantages
As investment gold, this coin is completely VAT-free – a decisive advantage over many other tangible assets. Furthermore, profits from the sale of gold are generally tax-free, provided the minimum holding period of one year is observed. This makes the 1/25 oz Somalia Elephant not only an emotional investment, but also a tax-attractive one.
Who Is This Coin Made For?
- Collectors: The annually changing design makes it a coveted collector's item
- Beginners: The compact 1/25 oz format provides affordable access to physical fine gold
- Those planning ahead: Gold can serve as long-term retirement provision and pass wealth down from generation to generation
- Gift-givers: Packaged in an elegant coin capsule, this gold coin is an unforgettable gift with lasting value
Compared to larger denominations such as the 1 oz or 1/2 oz Somalia Elephant, the 1/25 oz format offers a decisive advantage: flexibility. Smaller units can be sold more easily when needed or used as a means of exchange – an aspect not to be underestimated in times of economic uncertainty.
The 1/25 oz Gold Somalia Elephant 2026 combines everything that makes an outstanding gold coin: the highest fineness, masterful minting artistry, extreme rarity, and the timeless shine of the noblest of all metals. Whoever holds it in their hands holds a piece of African wilderness – and a piece of financial security.
