Viennese Melange in Gold & Silver: Six Mintings, One City
Vienna is best served mixed. That is exactly the idea behind this set: a dash of music, a touch of imperial court, a pinch of Art Nouveau. Underneath it all lies what truly matters, namely genuine precious metal. The Viennese Melange in Gold & Silver combines Austria's best-known bullion coin, the Vienna Philharmonic, in gold and in silver with four small gold mintings. They are dedicated to Mozart, Beethoven, Empress Elisabeth and Gustav Klimt.
Together, the set weighs in at a fine weight of 34.33 g (gross weight 34.36 g). Of this, 31.1 g is fine silver and around 3.23 g is fine gold.

The Philharmonic: Austria's Resounding Calling Card
Since 1989, the Austrian Mint has minted the Philharmonic in gold. Initially it carried a face value in schillings, and since 2002 in euros. In 2008 the silver version was added, which quickly became one of the most popular silver coins in Europe. The design comes from longtime chief engraver Thomas Pesendorfer and is the same for both metals. One side shows the instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic: the Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, violins and, in the center, the cello. The other side depicts the great organ in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. Around it are the inscription "Republik Österreich", the weight, fineness, the year of issue 2026 and the face value.
For investors, the Philharmonic gold coin is a safe choice. It is traded worldwide, instantly recognized throughout Europe, and reselling it later is easy. The 1/10 oz is among the most sought-after denominations of all. It is small enough to sell only part of it if needed, yet still contains a noticeable gold content. The silver ounce complements it well: silver is gold's smaller, often underestimated sibling and rounds out a precious metals holding nicely.
Compared with the Krugerrand and the Maple Leaf, the Vienna Philharmonic has a special feature. It carries a face value in euros, making it the natural bullion coin for buyers in the eurozone. The Krugerrand is made of 22-carat gold (916.7/1000). The Philharmonic, like the Maple Leaf, is minted from fine gold 999.9.
Four Viennese Icons in Fine Gold
Mozart and Beethoven: Viennese Classicism
Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756, but he found his greatest stage in Vienna. His minting shows the well-known portrait in a red coat in front of a handwritten sheet of music from his song "Das Veilchen". Beethoven came to Vienna from Bonn in 1792 and lived there until his death in 1827. He too is depicted in front of musical staves, along with his signature. Both coins come from Gabon (face value 1,000 CFA francs) and are each limited to 50,000 pieces.
Sisi and Klimt: Imperial Court and Art Nouveau
Empress Elisabeth remains to this day the most romantic face of the Habsburgs. Her minting was issued in 2023 for the 125th anniversary of her death. It shows the Empress with her famous diamond stars in her hair in front of a Viennese palace. Gustav Klimt's "Golden Adele" of 1907 is considered the pinnacle of his golden period. There is hardly a more fitting design for a gold coin. Both editions come from the Republic of Chad (face value 3,000 CFA francs).
All four small gold coins are produced by the Swiss refinery Valcambi from fine gold 999/1000. They arrive Brilliant Uncirculated on a blister card with a colored design.
Who This Set Is Suited For
Anyone new to precious metals gets everything at once here: gold and silver, classic bullion coins and themed mintings. Collectors will delight in the cohesive theme. As a gift for graduation, a university degree or a wedding, the set tells a story that goes beyond pure metal value.
Gold is humanity's oldest currency. Empires have come and gone, currencies have been introduced and abolished again. The yellow metal has outlasted them all.
An honest word on comparison: very small denominations such as 1/1,000 oz naturally carry a higher premium per gram than a full ounce. Anyone who primarily wants as much metal per euro as possible should buy the pure Philharmonic in a larger denomination. But anyone looking for variety, beautiful designs and an easy entry point will find this Melange exactly right. Physical gold and silver have always served to preserve value and are considered a proven hedge against inflation and crises. Here you get both in a form that is a pleasure to hold.
