The path of the sun
Twelve sections of a year.
Taurus is the second of the twelve sections.
Seen from the Earth, the sun travels once around the sky against the stars over the course of a year, along the ecliptic.
The signs divide this path into twelve equal sections of 30 degrees each, counted from the vernal equinox point, the position of the sun at the start of spring. The constellations of the same names differ in size.
Because the Earth’s axis slowly turns like a spinning top, once in about 26,000 years, the vernal equinox point has moved by about 30 degrees since the Greek Hipparchus. Signs and constellations are therefore offset today by about one constellation.
For more than 2,500 years
In cuneiform, in books, on clocks.
- BabylonThe cuneiform series MUL.APIN, preserved in copies from the 7th century BC onwards, names 17 constellations along the ecliptic.
- PtolemyAround AD 150, Ptolemy gathered more than a thousand stars into 48 constellations in the Almagest. At its core, our system today is his.
- Très Riches HeuresIn the book of hours of the Duke of Berry, now in Chantilly, each month’s picture shows the two zodiac signs of the month at the top.
- PragueThe astronomical clock has stood on the Old Town Hall since 1410, today with calendar, zodiac and clock.

One of the northern constellations of the zodiac.
Zodiac sign Taurus, in copper.
1 Ounce Copper Zodiac Taurus 2026 – Strength & Stability in Red Metal
Minting quality: Highest possible finish Proof (PP) – mirror-bright background, finely matted relief
Strictly limited: Very low mintage of only 1,000 pieces worldwide
Growth potential: High appreciation potential due to the strict limitation and the continued strong demand for zodiac sign designs
True rarity: Copper edition of the "Zodiac" series – a collector's item, not a mass-produced article
Design: A powerfully charging bull over rocky ground, above it a sparkling starry sky, surrounded by the inscription "Taurus – Strength & Stability" and the Taurus symbol in a medallion
Manufacturer: Contract minting by various minting partners (manufacturer information: various), issued in the name of the Republic of Liberia
Certificate: Delivered with certificate of authenticity, year of issue 2026, brand new
Down-to-earth, patient, unwavering: anyone born under the sign of Taurus knows these astrological attributions well. This collector's coin translates them into warm, glowing red copper – in a finish that is otherwise hardly found in the copper segment. While the market is dominated by simple copper rounds, the Taurus 2026 appears as a state-issued coin with a face value. A subtle but, for collectors, decisive difference.
The design: a bull that holds its ground
The obverse shows the animal in full expression. Muscular neck, lowered head, horns forward – a bull that won't give up its territory. Jagged rock breaks open beneath its hooves, while above it stretches a night sky of embossed stars. The inscription runs around the edge: "Taurus – Strength & Stability – The stars point the way, but fate lies in your hands". At the lower edge sits the astrological symbol of Taurus in a small medallion.
"The stars point the way, but fate lies in your hands." – a phrase that fits every collector who builds their own values.
The reverse is at least as elaborately designed: four image fields for the four elements – clouds, mountains, flames, and waves – meet in a central sun-moon medallion. All twelve zodiac symbols are embossed around it, from Aries through Gemini to Capricorn. The inscriptions "Twelve Signs – Four Elements – One Universe", "Republic of Liberia", and "1 OZ 999 FINE COPPER" complete the design.
Proof quality: why it stands out especially on copper
For Proof quality, dies and blanks are hand-polished, and each strike is applied multiple times with increased pressure. The result: a mirror-smooth background from which the matted relief stands out in sharp contrast. On copper, this contrast appears especially warm – the starry sky lies deep and dark behind the brightly shimmering animal. Please handle the coin only in its capsule and touch it only at the edge; copper reacts more sensitively than silver, and it is precisely this flawless condition that makes the appeal of a Proof strike.

A detail for the precise: for most copper pieces on the market, "1 ounce" refers to the smaller avoirdupois ounce of 28.35 grams. Here, it is a full 31.10 grams of fine weight – the same troy ounce as with a one-ounce silver coin. With a diameter of 40 millimeters, the Taurus also fits into common capsules, trays, and albums.
Copper, silver, gold – three paths, one collecting theme
The series is issued in several metals. Anyone wishing to collect all twelve signs has a choice: the silver editions with 999.9 fine silver and the small gold coins in the series score with their high intrinsic metal value. The copper strike, on the other hand, plays its own card – namely the very low mintage. Small mintages have always been the harder currency on the collector's market than the metal alone.
Copper coins offer the most diverse world of designs anyway: in the USA, countless copper rounds and copper medallions have been produced for decades featuring historical motifs, animals, technology, and fantasy themes. This is ideal for beginners, since the feel, weight, sound, and proper handling of capsules can be learned just as well on a copper piece as on an expensive gold coin. And most copper buyers are exactly that: classic collectors who enjoy building their own collection.
Who this rarity is worth it for
Those born under Taurus (April 21 to May 20) who want to own their sign in metal
Series collectors who want to complete all twelve zodiac designs
Lovers of small mintages, for whom the limitation is the decisive purchase argument
Gift seekers: an original in Proof quality with a certificate of authenticity feels far more personal for a birthday, christening, or wedding than a card
Beginners who want to get to know minting artistry and collecting accessories before moving on to larger formats
What is strictly limited becomes rare – and what is rare is sought after. With a mintage of only 1,000 pieces worldwide, the copper Taurus is likely to sell out much faster than the large series editions. Secure your piece while this rarity is still available.
